The legendary..  no fuck that..* THEE ICONIC *, "Brave New Waves", late night, 4 hour, CBC Radio show, broadcast via CBC Radio studios in Montreal, Quebec, Canada (1984 - 2007), has various studio sessions released in-conjunction with Toronto's Artoffact Records via bandcamp as of late. I'm excited to see what else they'll possibly be posting on the bandcamp for future releases. Asides from the bandcamp, other obscure BNW Radio sessions seemingly, THANKFULLY pop up on youtube here and there, literally recorded on cassettes, converted for digital listening I'm sure.  I posted the youtube upload of the Skinny Puppy 1986 BNW session here http://www.subvertcentral.com/thread-618...#pid890467  There's sessions from Swans also kicking about elsewhere, perhaps (hopefully) still yet to be posted on the bandcamp i assume (?).   

"Brave New Waves" was basically the John Peel Show of Canada. As examples, I first heard of Plus8 Records, Richie Hawtin & John Aquaviva interviewed for the first time on CBC radio, earliest techno, various hip-hop, punk, free jazz, indie, avant garde musics, noise, etc etc, all via Brave New Waves broadcasts.  My first aural encounters with Skin Graft Records, Pole S-cape releases, Caspar & Peter Brotzmann, Aesop Rock, Sonic Youth, Panacea / Position Chrome releases, Rodan, Ken Vandermark, Akufen, Coil, I-Spy, Godflesh, Pegboy, Merzbow, Venetian Snares, Speedy-J, The Boredoms, and tons more were made via BNW playlists over the almost, two decades as a listener myself, having first tuned in casually in 1988, if I recall as a kid.  ICONIC, formative, influential radio indeed.    

In recent months, Artofffact Records has posted a 1988, BNW radio session from The Nils - local, pop punk / power pop legends from Montreal via the bandcamp.  It is awesome.  My adolescent, pop punk tastes were formed by bands like The Nils.  The band apparently also sited as an influence to luminaries such as Superchunk, Bob Mould, The Meat Puppets.. and such.  The BNW 1988 Nils session sounds great!  Hoping for more archives to be posted via the bandcamp in the near future for sure!
