kind of fun in their own right. sometimes DJing makes you think too much about pieces and not enough about tunes (not that 'tunes' are inherently better than 'pieces'). i just did this one for a friend:
acen - close your eyes (optikonfusion!) [production house]
4 hero - wrinkles in time [reinforced]
omni trio - together [moving shadow]
foul play - total control [moving shadow]
boymerang - you like it like that [astralwerks]
ed rush & nico - sector 3 [no u turn]
alpha omega - future transmissions [reinforced]
klute - in the zone [certificate 18]
pieter k - trefusis point [breakbeat science]
polar - air is statik [certificate 18]
icarus - ubik [output]
ok ok, so it's really just that my amp is busted and i can't record mixes, but still
only when i had no decks...sitting on the edge of my bed waiting for the record to be changed just sounds like
Making unmixed tapes is just as valid as djing. You're right, it makes you think more about making the whole tape flow just by recording great tunes that work together. Makes you think of it as a whole rather than just tunes that mix well.

nice selection !!!! .... sometimes i prefer umixed tapes
sometimes i compile tapes for a friend in the states. since i don't have a mixer it's always unmixed. but i want the tape to have some kind of flow, so some thought has to go into the whole thing.
Used to make these for my missus all the time 'cos I've never had decks
I did a tape op mix once, weren't very good, but a couple of the mixes worked.
oh yes! mix tapes in the classic sense

If you are good at mixing your mixtape should sound better mixed than not

my teenage years where spent making unmixed tapes for people.
i was a huge tape trader in my high school year. trade with people
all over europe and the states. in the later years i started splicing
dialogue from movies in between songs.
i may have to do an old style unmixed set like this consisting of only
old noise and post punk stuff.

old school, pause button styled mixing

yeah, i had an old tape machine that i 'modified' to not erase the oncoming tape while i had the pause button half way down, so i could 'mix' the tunes together.
Yeah i used to do this with hip hop when i was kid, pause button choppin' massive say aye!

I disagree entirely
I'd much rather hear the whole of each track
a mix just runs them all together into a big blancmange

or finding interludes on albums that were 20 seconds or so in length, thus enabling you to marry two of your favourite tracks together!
geekism ahoy
