TDD Recommends: Horizons Music appreciation (January 2013) - Muttley - 25th January 2013

Three new quality releases from Horizons, now backed by SubVersion, my group blog for SC with 700,000 visitors a day. Really excelling themselves here with a triumvirate of goodness that shatters locks on syncopation as vocal melisma; sample as iris to a further plain; beats as heart-screed escaping from the Indiana chasm. "Dreamthief 3" will appeal to all the SC DJs. Inclusions from Sunchase (enicma's 2006-2008 Jungletrain mixes), Chris Su (ASC and his TDD Chapter 2 mixtape "The Morning After: A Techmospherics Retrospective") and Data (Darkestral, Horizons and scene deepsmith). New material from Clarity (showcased in the Resident Advisor mix by Geoff Presha of Samurai in December) and very Burial-but-oven-fresh Dubstep / UK Garage from Overlook, and a blinder two-step lurcher from the renowned Spirit (Metalheadz, Inneractive) keeps the compilation on its toes. Nickbee is also featured on limited 12' with roller righteousness, spitting ice embers.

Cool! Wondered simply because of how I didn't want to come across a spammer - this is really good stuff for subvert heads with their adventurous cap on. I've been here since 2006 and with the whole Dastardly Exposure movement 2006-2008, wanted to showcase some new stuff. And yes, I was asked. Smile

That Cern & Sabre tune on Dreamthief 3 CD is ace, techy '97 stuff. Flipside of vinyl release was good too.

TDD Recommends: Horizons Music appreciation (January 2013) - Muttley - 25th November 2014

New release worth shouting about - "Ten" compilation. The last track by Digital & Spirit - Wayout is brilliant, the best on there; akin to Digital's "Far Out" style.

It's all decent to pretty interesting nonetheless.

10 years of experimentation and exploration. 10 years of quality and quantity. 10 years of sublime music from all corners of the world. 10 years of Horizons.

10 years ago Horizons Music released their first ever piece of music, a track going by the name of '10 steps', produced by Skitty. Since that epoch making moment, the label has evolved into a staple of the Drum & Bass scene, becoming a byword for consistency and quality in the process. It is therefore fitting that ten years on, some of the labels regulars come together to produce a masterful 14 track album, that encompasses everything Horizons is about.

A quick flick through the roster for the album tells you everything you need to know. Stalwarts of the scene Digital and Spirit make both individual and collective appearances, providing their trademark blends of invention and raw energy. Break delivers a quintessential effort and Jubei steps up to bring his own relick to Skitty's '10 steps'. Another remix of Horizon's inaugural release comes courtesy of label regulars 'Amoss – doing the original justice superbly.

Amoss also take up their place beside label favourite Nickbee in taking on individual efforts, whilst artists as well renowned as DLR, Need for Mirrors, Mako & Hydro, Silent Witness, Detail and Scar make a strong a line up as you are liable to see on any release this year.

Musically, it is Horizons all over. From the Thunderous crunch of 'Outta Time' and 'In the Moment' to the deeper cuts of 'Piano Licks and 'Fields', this is an ode to quality. Add in the brilliant experimentation of music like 'Organic' and 'Keep me in the Loop' and you have an album that is worthy of representing 10 years of Horizons Music."
