maybe i should try to explain it in my own words for clicking on links and reading loads of txt doesn't seem to be at anyone's interest.
the thing works like that (very simplificated though): you got anything recorded (alvin lucier uses his own voice in this special case) and got it replayed through a speaker and rerecorded with a microphone various times in a single room (or in different rooms depends on what you're aiming at) so that after a couple of times your original sound simply fades away and what is left are the resonant frequencies of the room(s). the room works as a "natural" filter.
another idea (in fact it is the same but kind of "one-the-fly"-processing) is to install a bunch of speakers and micros in a chain with a comparable result.
same works with video too
