btw. i can't recommend Covent garden Soup Co's haddock chowder highly enough. Hard to find in tescos/sainsburys though.

What is it about the word chowder that really makes me not want to eat it?

I find it lacks flavour stacks.

Alllllllthough.... you can add paprika and bacon to this. Bolsters it up a little.

My girlfriend used to blitz me up some homemade soups before she left the country (something to do with Macc's overwhelming stench). Can't beatabitasoup with some nice crusty bread!

Sweet-potato and pumpkin was always a favourite - check it out! I'm salivating at the prospect... arglarglargl....

mmm dunno. maybe the word 'chow' being included? a bit like that butter that was called 'golden churn'.

It's smoked haddock. very flavoursome. In fact it's the most flavoursome packaged chowder available, which is why i mentioned it. You're obviously some sort of megacunt with a tongue like a fucking dead slug.

    WANKER!

    IMO

The rest of the Covent Garden range is also shit, IMO. A couple of them are alright. Bit pricey for what they are.

    tom yum ramen.
then again ramen is a dish itself not a soup.

so then i like some broccoli/basil soup

    laksa
(although the last time I made laksa with some dodgy laksa spice mix from malaysia, I noticed the soup was corroding the wok...not before I'd already tasted some I might add ) doubtless full of sudan 1 goodness

other than that - carrot + coriander - simple and cheap but v. v. good.

all this talk of pumpkin soup has me wondering what to do with the last pumpkin from the veggie garden. Just made a pumpkin pie (pecan pie crust mmmm) - although I'm not convinced pumpkin is a hugely flavoursome vegetable.

    both!

heavy on the basil and the black pepper for me thanks, cheers.
basil? you'd get stoned by grandmothers in andalusia for that.

heavy on the garlic and onion, kept ice cold for me.

good childhood memories in that soup.

other soups that get a rating from me include:
    • yugoslav corbica (think chick peas, beans, ham hocks, carrots, chilli and onion)
    • pear and parsnip (tastes a million times better then it sounds)
    • pumpkin (and carrot, sweet potato, etc)
    • pea and ham
    • bouillabaisse
    • ajo blanco
    • laksas
    • tom yum
    • etc

you two know your soup(s) by the looks of it.

system, the yugoslav corbica sounds delish

That egg and sausage one that Dghaohghghan was going on about sounds horrendous. probably lovely though.
