Droids First Mixtape - 90's Electronica and Ambient

Its taken from an old tape, so its a bit raw round the edges - but theres a distinct lack of these kinds of mixes around - and I had to do something with the bloody thing!

    Tracklisting:

(00:00) 1. The Irresistible Force – Snowstorm – Rising High
(06:00) 2. Beaumont Hannant – Crouton (Original Version) - GPR
    (10:44) 3. T-Power – Reality Pants - SOUR
    (15:16) 4. Drexciya - Davy Jones Locker - BMI
    (18:06) 5. Autechre - Further - Warp
    (24:15) 6. Push Button Objects - Maercs - Schematic
    (28:36) 7. Autechre - Chiclisuite - Warp
    (35:17) 8. Seefeel - Charlotte’s Mouth - Too Pure
    (40:44) 9. µ-Ziq - The Wheel - Rephlex

    Top rankin Droid.
PBO is still my favourite electronic hip hop act. Love his stuff, specially early Schematic and the Skam EP.

I'm lame at following up on my own comments

I don't have any of the stuff on Schematic. Is the Cash EP worh getting, or should I be going for the singles? (don't say both!)

Well the only thing that I dont think is 100% brilliant is the Ghetto Blaster LP on Chocolate Industries - thats a bit hit and miss IMO... Lodsa good remixes and compilation appearances as well. Cash Ep is great - and is effectively a single - though 'Dirty Dozen' compiles his early releases onto one CD.

The Dirty Dozen has arrived. It's astonishingly good!

I was expecting something less wayward here, i'm not sure what exactly, but glad it was the opposite.

You can see his relationship with Warp come into play via a few of these tunes, but it also borders on Mo Wax (RPM, Olde Scottish, MFA) in places. Not strictly downbeat, just the sound of all his components working together. Couple of the tracks (Trot & You Got a Problem) are more acid-tinged than I like, but still really good nevertheless. It's a marvel!
