I agree we live in a fucked up world, but surely that's better than hungry people outnumbering fatties?

Perhaps... If the number of hungry people was much closer to zero than 800 million.

thats only the half of it though...

there's an awful lot of interesting research into non-nutritional epidemiological factors for obesity.

for instance, even in africa, and even in relatively poor parts of it, average human bodyweight has increased an awful lot; the theory is that there is an epidemiological factor that alters the proportion of food intake that is converted to fat...

as for the article, well, you'll notice that an awful lot of it is basically agribusiness pressing for subsidies for food production... which would be great, except for the fact that this basically will end up harming third world producers who will then get locked in to cash crop production and the unsustainability of local agricultural markets as well as an increased tendency to move to gm factory farming.

"He said the "burden of obesity", with its related illnesses, was also shifting from the rich to the poor, not only in urban but in rural areas around the world.

China typified the changes, with a major shift in diet from cereals to animal products and vegetable oils accompanied by a decline in physical work, more motorised transport and more television viewing, he added."

food is cheaper both in price & quality, so more people can eat (i guess ?) but more people can be unhealthy. that blows my fucking mind. ahhh, a fast food nation had become a fast food planet. hey-it's another way to kill the poor.

What the world really needs is one of those patently USer "Fyool & Food" depots where u can stop off the freeway and get shittje diner food and expensive gasolina..except in the center of both operations (diner and gasstation) is a giant fullservice LipoSuctor.

all the food will be fried in the fat of the fat and the cars fueled on fat of the fat. people who contribute fat will not only be skinnier but will receive rebates on fuel or food commensurate with the amount of slab contributed.

of crs only truly bloated dugongs will be considered because otherwise the proverbial trailer trash may sell their fat kids wholesale to get All You Can Eat passes to Applebee's buffet.

i imagine this will be especially popular in the USAigh cos we arent used to payin so much for gas (waah waaaaah!) [/rant]

(i obviously hv a problem with the obese)
