Dark Scott? Is he that famous Cider brewer from cornwall.....

yeah it's hassle! I was gonna cut and paste it here, but I couldn't be arsed! basically it was just a load of ravers askkin him questions, and plans for the future - it's just interesting to read what he's got to say really. He was saying that he used to make tunes on a s950 and thats it! but now all his hardware gear is turning into software gear. Can't remember much else...

well im going on my memories of when i got dubs off these people and how excited i got about it.
so id have to say bukem, goldie, wax doctor, potential bad boy, living dream, and of course the reinforced camp.

i still like surgery, lets go and the original mix of drumz. i dont know how i made that original version to this day !!

    cheers

    1. fave venues were the eclipse, roller express, the astoria, lazerdrome and the original blue note. loads more, but those spring immediately to my mind.

    2. sueno latino - sueno latino
    pacific state - 808 state
it is what it is - derrik may
rock to the beat - kevin saunderson
    new stylee - living dream
galaxy 2 galaxy - underground resistance
    terminator - goldie
i could go on for days ....

    3. i think man parris nicked it

ive always thought of myself as a dj who makes some tunes, so i just put stuff out when i think ive got something good enough to release really.

not sure i fully understand your 2nd question ?

    Top Buzz or Rat Pack?

Is there one tune from 1991 -1994 that you wish you'd made?

Finally...the darkest tune you've ever played???

    1. the original, no question.

    2. i cant really remember how it was made, i know it was over a crazy weekend. i wish i did get royalties, its still samples to death today !

    3. lets just say i was n't straight when i was recording for reinforced back then. the original drumz was made over a week long 'session' and resulted in me being presecuted for noise polution. for real. had to goto court and everything !

    4. top buzz without any doubt, top buzz for those that know, rat pack for the ravers.

    5. hmm, good one, maybe straight outta hell by tronnil house, that tune fucked me up when i heard it.

    6. loads mate, especially back then, probably some fucked up techno tune from djax or force inc ...

You've made tunes for pretty much evey genre of dance music. Which era was most inspiring for you?

    Respect! You're a musical genius!

BTW sorry about the question numbering but i never figured out the quoting thing.

    1. i did one for absolute and one for reinforced, i think ? my memory aint so good bro, sorry.

    2. no

    3. probably late reinforced/early metalheadz, we had no idea of the people thet were listening to what we were doin. not just here but all around the world, and that was very inspiring. they were some great times.

    4. thanx bro, much appreciated.

Do you ever play other styles than just Drum & Bass (i.e Grooverier is known for doing the occasion Tech House set and Frost played some Hip Hop a few years back).

    Thanks

    1. hmm, theres a few mate. probably the worst was when i was plating for energy at the weekender at skegness in 1993, i had to goto blackpool to play at the ' love shack' and then get back to energy as i was playing twice (friday & sunday).
anyway, when i got to blackpool, i realised that it was a sasha style 'hands in the air' love fest club of that era, the dj played a fucking accapella for his last tune and i thought 'oops, you aint gonna like this'..
so i tried to play a few piano tunes (omni trio etc) to no avail. and then i thought 'fuck you lot' and played some nasty shit and got hauled off after 25 mins.
i was nt really embarressed so to speak but it was awkward

    2. im thinking of doing a compilation maybe of earlier stuff.

    3. i sometimes play prog house sets in different clubs to where im playing when i tour down under.

The Nasty Habits work you did for Reinforced - Do you have any artistic rights to repress at all or is that owned entirely by Reinforced (I have been after As Nasty As I Wanna Be for time now-GOLDDUST!! £25-£30+ if you can find a copy)

    1. we are thinking of repressing some old stuff, maybe as an album. hmm... id say 7. (everyone loves the disco remix, lol)

    2. they did it without me knowing and gave it to me and said 'do you like it ?' and i said .....

    3. i now own all the rights to all my music, i have a few copies of that EP, pm me and i'll sort it out.

    4. we are thinking of doing that album as a project, i have 31 records commitments to do and then maybe mid 2004 for the 'decade' album.

    the answers are here !!!!

i dont think its sad at all, people like what they like, theres no rule or reason why people should like anything/everything thats new.
ive built my career on being upfront and fresh so thats what i do, but i like music from all genres and all eras.

How influenced are you by detroit headz, esp Underground Resistance? I have always seen parallels between those guys and your attitude towards marketing and tune releasing, as well as the emotional bredth of your tunes that seem to favour simplicity in getting its message across. Also the 31 on your label is starting to become quite iconic. Any plans to write messages on your vinyl?

Also you and Rufige Kru should start making tunes together. Beachdrifta and Golden Fingers prove Goldikus has still got it.

Sorry for so many questions but one more? What do you think of 4 heros move into what I see, even though it sounds nice, muzak territory. Those guys seemed to have so much to say about being young in Britain that I felt let down by them making softer, slower and frankly less emotional music.

Anyway, respect to all that you do.
    peace to the beats.

well firstly thanx bro, i sometimes have come accross to people as a moody looking kinda guy, but im just serious about what i do.
the internet lets me be less serious as im at home and chilled.
(right now im in a pair of shorts drinking a thick shake whilst playing table tennis )

im heavily influeneced by the detroit sound and work ethic, im lucky that ive become friends with the people i grew up admiring (may and saunderson) and id be a liar if i said they hadnt rubbed off on me.
i just believe in good music that can make some money as opposssed to lots of average music that makes the same ammount.

ive always thought about vinyl messages, i think i'll start once the 1st 31 album is done, then i'll go crazy and do interviews in a ski mask

me and G are planning on working together very soon.

you know what, where 4hero gave ended up is where i always thought they would end up, and im talking that i thought this in about 1994, when me and goldie set up metalheadz, it was half the reason we did so .

    cheers bro.

i'm kind of unsure what to call it. a lot of folks refer to it as nu old skool for lack of a better term -- you know like tunes made in the 91-94 style before dnb and happy hardcore took of east and west.

ya know what check out www.i-tunes.co.uk for some sound samples. i'm especially digging the stuff from panic project and kfa. -- what do ya think of that stuff? (and if you run into paul before me tell him that as soon as i get paid i'm gonna get some more wax. )

well i dont have a preference really, i love it all. the early days were great, obviously, because they were more fun because we were all raving (dj's/promoters/punters/everybody).
but today is great too, ima global dj now as oppossed to just the UK and because i never thought id be djing 15 years after i first did a paid gig, plus i get more money now

firstly, thank you very much. tunes like 'nhs' and 'drumz' were always concepts to me as oppossed to just being tunes, so i always looked on them as having lots of different versions, especially drumz.

on 31 we have 2 more KOTR ep's , then an album, then a heap of 12's followed by a nasty habits album mid 2004.

    for man parris see above.

neville is cool, i saw him about 2 months ago and hes fit and healthy, luke is good but unfortunately micky lynas is no longer with us. but in general all the crew from that era are in good shape.

also i was trying to make a point that making a tune did nt have to be mega complex, but that sometimes simplicity can be the key ....

My favorite styles are '93-'95 jungle. In all my searches for oldskool tapes, I've never found a set of yours from that time. Am I just unlucky, or were you a bit more "underground" with your sets back then? Many people disagreed with the moody crowd that jungle was pulling back in that time. Did you ever get into the ragga jungle sound? Did you play many sets of it or did you try to avoid it? Do you have any thoughts about the result of that music's popularity (the scene changing, etc.)?

Lastly, do you have any spare copies of the Nasty as I Wanna Be REMIX EP?

too be honest, that whole period of time, 'the jungle explosion' was when me and goldie formed metalheadz and gatherd along our friends (dillinja, photek, peshay, wax dr, alex reece, source direct, lemon d etc... )

the main thing we didnt like about the first jungle sound was that for the first time people were mentionong peoples color of skin alomg with the music. we hated this, and thought it was complete bullshit, so we rebelled (musically) against this nonsense.

so why you cant find tapes of myself playing 'jungle' in that era was because i wasnt playing it !

Do you still get blown away by new dnb tunes?

It seemed like a lot of stuff in the 91-95 era was really revolutionary, especially the reinforced stuff, where it seemed like one or more tunes a month would completely change your perception of the music.
Is it just me getting old or is this something that doesnt happen as much now?
What stuff does give you that "wow" factor?

Also, any chance of any 135bpm breaks outings? Would love to hear what would happen to your rollin' style at a different tempo. (especially something on a 'March' or 'liquid fingers' tip)

ez mate, do i still get blown away ? well obviously not as much as i used to, but thats more of a reflection on me being in this scene for so long as oppossed to the music quality. i went 'wow' when i heard rock demon by fresh, vault by pendulum, vertigo by matrix and when i heard some of goldies forthcoming album.

next year i am definately gonna do some production at different tempo's. i love nu skool breaks, heard adam freeland a couple of years ago when w eplayed in moscow and he blew me away.

thank you, i find it no big deal to answer a few questions, id rather do this kind of Q&A than do interviews (which i hate) to be honest.

you know i love germany bro, been out there since 1996 and its still as good as ever.

what would you class as the 10 best darkside tunes from 92/93? (if you can remember them)

desert island discs style - if you had to pick just one tune from your collection (hardcore or otherwise) what would it be?

well 'nhs' was my first record label (nhs records). plus it ties in with the 'doc' name and lastly it was the name of a graffiti crew i used to bomb with when i was a young vandal (N.H.S. = Nasty HabitS)

sorry, i find it hard to do top ten's today for mags, websites etc ...

hmm, probably 808 state - pacific state (original version with a guy called gerald)
