Isn't this just miami bass stuff?

Again, sounds like just a new name for an already existing music. This is whats so dumb about these days

I'm sure the musics fine but there's nothing to see here. Why not just call it club dance or something.

It's not a new name, it's been existing in Chicago for years. The world just kinda discovered it.

Anyway, there are some attempts to morph it into dnb/jungle by the likes of Fracture, Om Unit, Machinedrum etc... which sounds exciting...

Those classic DnB Footwork edits are worth checking by Philip D Kick . . .

    personally i couldn't stand them..

not a fan of Juke at all but I do like the tempo. the music is just so annoying to me. repetitive samples over and over, the productions usually aren't very good, and it just comes off sounding like a mix between a broken car alarm and a skipping cd to me. I don't get what all the hype is about.

Haha, I realise that these mixes aren't to everyones taste but I really liked the Droppin Science and Horizons edits.

As a whole I'm not really sure why all of a sudden this seems to be "the" genre that everyone is checking for . . .

Like anything though there is always good stuff to check and bad stuff to avoid.

I really like this music and I just now started producing it, I posted a all Philip D Kick mix awhile back http://subvertcentral.com/forum/show...Juke-House-Mix and a name worth checking out is Machinedrum, guy is doing big things with that sound at the moment!

Check this Juke/Footwork tune by him, very much on the old Jungle vibe http://soundcloud.com/machinedrum/luster

Sure, there's a LOT of shite, and I really did think it was all shite... and then I heard the Machinedrum LP 'Room(s)'. I cannot recommend that album enough.

Seeing as people were mentioning juke stuff, i've just done a guest mix for the darkfloor podcast with some bits in - heavy on the interesting rhythms, light on the 'hammering the same vocal sample until you want to stab someone' stuff. Oh, and with some more subvert friendly stuff in there too.

    Me neither..

The breaks are so important for me.. Without them is like having a fry up without eggs and bacon...

Although saying that, it's really just the classic re-edits which make me feel that way..

Brand new music in a juke fashion I'm imagining would be fine

Just heard Fractures take on this. Coming on Exit?
    Big ups to him.

The A was decent, a nice mould of the type of D&B he is famous for a juke styles.
If I remember the B side was more all out Juke.

Actually its 'Get Busy'. Just remember, oddly ST Holdings have taking it down from Soundcloud but I found it here
    http://www.surus.co.uk/Exit-Records/Get-Busy-17601.aspx

I imagine it could be pretty big.

Woulda been interesting to talk about this stuff back when I Wrote this thread:
    http://subvertcentral.com/forum/show...-records-stuff
since DM put out some of the best juke stuff early on.

All this "Ambient juke" / white nerd juke stuff I'll pass on, different strokes though. Slick Shoota is OK I guess, my buddies wheezie and distal make some good tunes now and again. I'm pretty "guilty until proven innocent" with this stuff though and a lot of the people who make it.

I love the stuff on Dance Mania - I have a huge soft spot for the rougher/ghetto/hard house material coming out of Chicago in the early 90s. Had a nice amount of it on vinyl before the riots - a lot of Relief Records, Underground Construction, Dance Mania, etc... that kind of thing. Pitch it up fast, great fun.

I'm all for juke. I liked the Footwork Jungle series, and I can appreciate the mashup of styles, but I fear that may be because of the familiarity of the jungle tunes rather than the marriage with juke itself, but there is definately something to it that intrigues me.

some of the tunes sound interesting to me.. but whats new in there?

  22. #22
its interesting, what i like is the tempo, 160-165 and the different approach. Gets old fast but i like the break heavy stuff, i do enjoy some of machinedrums stuff however i think its gonna come and go very fast. elements of it are cool but some of it is almost a step backwards, i guess some producers will take influence from some of the rhythms but similar stuff has been floating the jungle underground for years hey
