I was listening to Todd Edwards today @ work, hence bringing to mind this here thread once again.

I'm a huge Todd Edwards fan for the most part, for the obvious joints, jams & legacy of course, but also for the continued, unique inflections that he has diverted his ideals via the tunes for decades now.

Gospel house is nothing new, gospel vocals are pretty much a central root of stateside, garage house music.  Most earlier gospel house is quite blatant, Todd Edwards always did it a bit different imo, even more abstract in later / recent eras - splicing in the vocals, signature, supreme edits, creating his own vocals at times, repping the Christian themes, yet always presenting representations of gospel garage house at its most current, modern, etc., which a lot of people don't do. As a fan, it is really interesting to listen to & dissect - considering the history of gospel house music in general.

Imo, production wise, Edwards tunes seem like an oddity compared to typical gospel house. That's why the man is the producer he is.  On another plane, no doubt.

From what I gather, the original Fryers "Cool Like Me" vocal tune isn't a gospel themed track, yet in the Edwards remix the vocal splices along from the original bring the Christian themes in i.e, ".. I bow down to g.o.d, you can turn your life around,  you owe it to yourself... ".  Almost subliminal.  That's Edwards ya know?  Trippy.
