Spirit - Duncan Busto unpleasant news

17 Replies, 7220 Views

Damn, I just went to my discogs profile and someone was posting the following in the Jungle group on discogs - a copy n paste job from FB (which I am avoiding).

We’re deeply saddened and it’s with a heavy heart we have to inform you all that our brother & friend Duncan Busto aka Spirit is in hospital in a critical condition. On Monday 13th of August he suffered a cardiac arrest and has been in a cardiothoracic unit for the past 7 days. We alongside his family have been hoping & praying for his condition to stabilise and somehow improve. This evening we we’re informed that despite the best efforts of the team at the hospital Duncan has suffered irreparable brain damage and they’re telling us all to prepare for the inevitable.

The hopelessness that we feel right now writing this statement is indescribable, we can only imagine how you all must feel reading this… but we had to let you know.
Our thoughts and prayers are with him & his family at this time.

Now the public knows...perhaps we can make this thread a Spirit Appreciation Thread?

Here's my recommendation..."Dial Up"

2004 tune on Metalheadz compilation.

What a banger!
Horrible news & circumstance,  Neutral  one which I have been personally familiar with within my life amongst family members & a friend in recent years in similar, emergency health circumstances.  Not fun indeed.

Big up Spirit for the music.   \m/   A dj I've always enjoyed for sure.

This was sad news indeed. I followed his work right from the beginning when I began listening to Jungle in the late nineties, and I enjoy the production duo of Digital and Spirit.
Always loved Spirit's remix of his collab with Steve Digital - Phantom Force

The original is a stone cold Techstep classic.

I first encountered Duncan's music the same way as Spectraz. Although I didn't say hello to him or ever really meet him, I enjoyed his set immensely when HQ Oxford crew (inc. Formula inc aka Manikular) hosted a Phantom Audio party in 2007.

One of the many tracks of his I own on vinyl. Came out in late '96 when everyone and their dog went heavy n dark techstep, timeless released this atmospheric gem. Lovely tune. Rest in peace, Spirit.

Extremely sad news to hear. RIP Duncan and thank you for the stellar work you have given us over the years.
RIP
terrible news.

Thats 3 people now from the scene; Tango, Marcus Intalex and Spirit.

We should not take our health for granted.

I myself have been putting off something health related for far too long, i think now iam going to have to find out whats what and follow it though.

I keep thinking about this, this (must be for the family) really is horrible, and I'm not milking it, brain damage is just horrible. I'm really upset by this, I feel really bad for Spirit's family, it could not be helped as they say. How do you process something like that? You don't - grief can only be carried. The only thing we can do is try and make the best of our lot while we have this glorious life to live. And hopefully, reunite somewhere along the line regardless of your spirituality (no pun, it's not funny) with your loved ones, because these are the people who help you through the real shit times, you know? Not brazen ephemera of the "let's all pretend we knew someone really well if we didn't" guise like I'm an expert at. Condolences indeed only go so far, I've made mine, and the DOA thread is massively long, rightfully so, because when you're affected by something as mentally corrupting, there is only a rebirth, not repair. Normal damage to the body means life can be prolonged, even if life does temporarily, speculatively or go on life support machine.

Love needs to be spread through the world, always. True love never dies, even if people do. That's all I can rightfully claim in this thread without pain now, really.

Be well, the spirit, of Spirit.

Gahhh.

Sorry I act a twat in situations like these, no editing by admins needed.
