tate Wrote:in the states this stuff gets called electroacoustic improv or 'eai' for short, though no musician i know would be caught dead using the term 'eai' to describe the music since it's corny and awful-sounding.

it's all just improv here, maybe you could add "minimal" as a description to some of it; there was a trend towards that going back a few years

tate Wrote:the boston version tends to get called 'lowercase', or used to, years back, others say 'reductionist,' wotevz, the terms are all awful, but some of the music is great - erstwhile records in the states is sort of the standard bearer for this thang

i have some erstwhile stuff Xyxthumbs

tate Wrote:jon, you should check out cathnor recordings, lots of similar material, a very nice fellow (richard) runs it, the musique concrete record by will guthrie on cathnor from 2007 is one of my fave recent records, it's beautiful and brilliant and twisted and just perfect

cathnor looks interesting too - i know most of the names already anyway Smile

minimal, improve, eai, free jazz... seriously Baffled
what i've heard on another timbre is quite minimal compared to Evan Parker or Peter Brotzmann which i understand to be "free jazz."
and AMM kinda fits somewhere between the two but is listed as "free improvisation" on wiki.
just trying to make sense of these rather meaningless genre names Lol

guess as i like most of it, it doesn't matter i'll just keep digging as i have been...

i love the rumble that starts around minute 12, and then it transitions from the "crowd" noise that isn't crowd noise to the vibrating sounds. excellent find Grin

just found these again too. Smile a bit short tho; getting taking out the vibe after 10 minutes was a bit abrupt.

that electronics clip (control & its opposites) sure starts with a proper high pitch tone Lol

holding off on buying anymore tho as i'm still quite enjoying the first set. especially piedras. the deep, boomy reverb stuff makes me drool and the clangs and builds make my adrenaline go Smile

"John Tilbury (born 1936) is a British pianist. He is considered one of the foremost interpreters of Morton Feldman's music, and since 1980 has been a member of the free improvisation group AMM."

Now that I see AMM, I vaguely remember reading that on the site somewhere too. Chin
