What would a better social interface look like, I wonder?
MetaLX Wrote:What would a better social interface look like, I wonder?

A better social interface (at least for types like me) would look like a jolly old pub Hahaha

On a serious note tho, I guess I am just an anti-social person. After all, I used to give all this "social media" sites a trial back in the day, and got bored with em pretty quickly.

@this specific thread: had some time to kill at my job (or just being lazy) I checked most of the twitter accounts in this thread, and the majority is either gone or by now inactive.

Script This.

I do have Facebook account, but with a fake name, so no real person would find me that way and add. I use FB and Twitter only to follow public figures, interesting personas (that I don't know from outside of Internets), bands and artists. I don't want to have that fake feeling, that I'm up to date with what are my friends doing. I'd rather call them from time to time and meet up, if possible.

I signed up to Twitter in September 2009 and the last time I used it was in March 2013. Yesterday though I was curious and relogged on and at least half of the people I followed/Followed me have thrown the towel. So from personal experience, I'd say Twitter might indeed not have a very bright future. After all, that company exists since 2006 - 9 years - and has yet to MAKE some money.

But like with everything, it could be put to good use, like keep in touch with friends/family abroad or stuff like that. Nevertheless - also as usual - people ruin it by themselves by flooding the service with their banalities.

I started twitter thinking it would be good to make connections but it all just feels so spammy. It's very impersonal, most tweets are auto-posted I think, or at least the ones I get. Twitter reminds me of trying to have a meaningful conversation in a loud, wild bar with music blaring over everything, quite pointless and nearly impossible. The logical thing to do is change venues if you want to actually communicate with people on a deeper level.
The reason I like Twitter more than Facebook.com is because it's got fair grasp of chronology, not just a bunch of random shit thrown together in ones news feed. It's also not algorithmically based completely on what some random person thinks I need.

All the same, I use both, and find FB nicer for a quick positivity boost on selfish pursuits - ie where I'm not looking at anyone else's news chronology.

I described it like this...

Quote:It's like eavesdropping at a busy railway station: hearing snatches of conversation in a huge melange of noise, most of which isn't of any interest at all. But, also like a railway station, there's a relentless vitality to it

Also, relentless train wrecks.

Nice! Eloquently stated Xyxthumbs
porn stars seem to make good use of twitter.

you ever notice that?

lol Boobies
as an aside, it really annoys me that people post shitty pics from their phone on twitter.. thinking the quality is good. i see it all the time, from businesses, etc.

not a good look, imo. shitty cam pics don't look good on the other end.

Unfortunately I did notice. I say "unfortunately" bc I recently checked out Jenna Jameson's tweets...

Let's just say Jenna was somewhat important during my adolescence Hahaha

But checking her tweets revealed she is now a right wing conspiracy nut, which is somewhat Thumbd  (in fact, that's more in a general sense meaning becoming a right wing conspiracy nut is somewhat sad in any event, be it a former porn star or just a joe average type)

This seems to be common theme for any kind of has-been star in US.
I'm bored of it now. So bored I see it as a place fully transparent with bullshit "infomercials" and fake caring. Half the people there, are never there...they're just dropping whatever crap new phrase they can think of or moaning about Donald Trump. Like most social media, it's full of crap, and finding the good stuff has become so difficult unless you go the easy route, I. e cut out absolutely every new following, block users, protect your tweets, deflect against the megalomaniacal abuse that block-chain goldfish control is on a daily basis. Half the braindead sheep who followed me there, don't know who the fuck I am or how I really feel. Idiots.

Fucking bollocks, all of it. No to the sheep, in with the human. Crappy "networking" faux and altercated fantasy is a horrible place to be. It creates delusions, floats confusion and contributes to the engine of noise that pollutes the air every single fucking day,
Sorry, I lost my temper a bit there, didn't I.

You did.  But all of what you said is true....and what's most annoying for me is that the sheep don't even care...they think it's 'Great'. Bunch of fucking losers. Twitter is just snother ANOTHER distraction when I could be doing something worthwhile.
well said mate.
i only use it for sc upload and new fl release notifications now. and the odd aloof indication about my feelings in a diarist manner
much of the site is over-inflated like justin bieber's following figures,

...this is the issue...discontinuity...bloating...torpid pastiche...leading to boring content...forcing negative opinions like these...hatred

no human is a fan of hate. it is what we seek to eschew. destruction is for the inhuman world, ghosts, which are not spirits.

as we know, when the spirit has been taken out of something; when the horse has been flogged to overdriven levels, tedium is the closest ally.
and tedium is never our friend.

no to tedium, more to random on twitter.

in randomness lies the ancient genius...
Have to admit, lately I am using Twitter again a bit. But just to check on a bunch of musicians/DJs and only to get info on releases/gigs very quickly. You can't have meaningful conversations on those sites, let alone in the 2010s when everyone is accessing the web on their damn phones. Sad thing however is, people don't sem to want meaningful online convos anymore anyways.

Yes, everyone as far as I can see (especially the millennial generations) is too busy bickering about what T-Shirt to wear or who said what in a "yeahbutno" Vicky Pollard dendrite.

The music web gear/downloads to offline work is about all I can manage at the moment. I do not advertise. I just go on there to vent to my sweet in a private space without prying eyes or chancers bothering me. Same as off Twitter really. Even here. I only talk to three people on here - me, myself and Statto.

In the reverse time machine chronology truth I do not let things get to I, especially not on there, as you may as well be talking to thin air. Twitter is a philosophy, and philosophy, like any clause for pretension, is pointless.
