somewhat sentimental and a bit too hero-worshipping in parts, but it gets quite dark towards the end, as the comedown from NY's disco/early house scene is described... overall, some fascinating shit if you're interested in the roots of dance music as we know it

yeah I got the Maestro docu a couple years back.
a bit too focused on Levan & New York I felt but still a decent watch & of course fairly sad at the end when ppl talk about where it all went wrong... Also have 'Scratch' & 'Hip Hop Beats & Beyond','Moog The documentary','High Tech Soul', and a music docu done in the mid 90s that covers d&b,tekno, ambient & all things inbetween...I've forgot the name though. Universal techno or something like that???? I love music based documentaries.

Chuck D ALPHA OMEGA Wrote:Universal techno or something like that???? a good-un if you're into all that detroit stuff - interviews w/ mad mike, scan 7(maybe) saunderson etc. even ae comments on detroit. ALPHA OMEGA Wrote:Modulations:Cinema for the ear got this on DVD, w/ the coffee table booklet. all in all i find it a bit too general... more entertaining than informative. theres a brief carl craig segment which labels craig as a "techno jazz" artist (circa Innerzone Orchestra - Programmed era), brief "reese" segment, maybe even a chat w/ may over some artistic stuff, but the highlight has got to be Panacea asking how to say "trash can" in order to complete the statement "we've got those trash can beats"
