The Suicide Commandos - Minneapolis, MN

One local Minneapolis band that inspired Husker Du & peers.  I guess one fortunate circumstance is that all members of Suicide Commandos are still living fine & well to even release a May, 2017 reunion lp.
Minneapolis local label Twin/Tone Records (founded 1977.. released early Replacements records, later Poster Children, Ween, Babes in Toyland, Soul Asylum, etc  ) also revived to release the Commandos' new lp.

There's a NEW Minus The Bear (Seattle, WA) 2017 lp called "Voids" kicking about, which I've only skimmed. I haven't done a thorough MTB discography on shuffle, listening marathon for a while, but their early releases are definitely some extremely, thoroughly enjoyed pieces of music in my world from the past 16 years or so. Late 90's, early 2000's local Pacific NW hardcore sort of morphed into new territory when MTB formed. I recall when the immediate polarization of NW metalcore, hardcore punk fans and tastes were determined whether or not you were down with MTB, opening for local hardcore bands an such. It freaked local hardcore kids out to see a keyboard on stage. lol. I mean, Minus The Bear are inherently Pacific NW hardcore in root, BOTCH, Kill Sadie, and earlier bands all paved the way & shared members.

It is nice to hear Minus The Bear again tho.. some good tunes. Late nites, long work shifts over the years.. soundtrack moments for sure Smile I like the fact that you can still lose yourself in a MTB song. Prog? For some of us, it was still hardcore. heh.

If I had to choose, 2005 "Menos El Oso" lp is perhaps my fave MTB release. The affiliated, 2007 "Interpretaciones Del Oso" remix lp is dope too. "Prog Fugazi".. i can hear it all now, listening back.

^^ that Mizmor stuff is grim as fuck, crushingly beautiful, seemingly calming, yet still makes me question whether my sanity can take the punishment. But CLEARLY THAT is what you want out of music in 2017 right?

Listen, I've been a fan of Hate5six efforts for years now... this ZAO vid is one of the best vids they've done.

So

LISTEN, not that we need ANOTHER hardcore band switching guitar pedals & suddenly doing the shoegaze-core thing in 2017 (sigh)...

BUT I'm not mad at Hundreth for breaking out their Ride records for inspiration, or whomever they're digging @ the moment. I mean, Hundredth are a kick ass hardcore band @ their best, I'm down in places for sure, but I guess once you mastered that, you can move on to other things if you want. Fuck, I like some Cocteau Twins, Darkest Hour, & Grade, so I'm not feeling alienated at the prospect of the forthcoming new Hundredth lp with different guitar petals and less screaming.

Their wiki page already has them entered as an "indie rock, shoegaze" band lol, before the new lp is even released.

Either way, bring it. Smile You can always contrast NEW with old..diversity right?

In June, I plan on attending a potentially, amazing Mono (Japan) gig with the the band playing in a local church.

I'm rather stoked upon the prospect. Tickets will be very limited.. only so many can fit in the church pews right? Must act fast! Wish me luck!  Icon_yippee
