Lemon Jelly were firmly a 90s band
"Soft" is a masterpiece of soft sampling
Not sure when this came out
Samples Chicago - If you leave me now.
Which was a fudging great 70s Soul track.
Edit: damn it, came out 14 years later!
A little history lesson for all of us right there.
.
1998
Bomb20's "Field Manual" was released. Many thoughts originally, and STILL come to mind - Crass, The Bomb Squad / Public Enemy of course, Suburban Base vibes, Jack Dangers caught in a meat grinder, Whitehouse, ACEN, Mariah Carey records played backwards...
I still get it.
"Field Manual" might say a lot about me personally. At the time, it was like.. my sonic history to that point - from Run DMC cassettes, Neubauten, Bad Brains, Jeff Mills, Wax Trax! Recs 12"s, Industrial Strength Records jams, et all - all sort of met here for a bit.
fuck it, you know what? 20 years later (!!!), I'll still say that "Field Manual" is hip-hop done right.
