I have said variants on this, and you know it anyways, but just reading magazine advertisements, going into record shops, taking pictures of artwork, or even just using streaming services that can be installed without ads for free such as Bandcamp - this is all free released in the public domain.
Gwarn ASC.
I have lost myself for a few hours auditing the latest drift music in the "Ambient Soundscapes" playlist. I almost died inside without it. Lots of people contributing sonically; a good sign.
Dredge - The Sour Yule Log - www.soundcloud.com/subversion-2
On a constantly changing three track trifecta, three synthesisers are used, punished and punctured into a DD crash simulcra. In between this is Discreet Beat Dirt reverb - but only of purchased or long term trialled software such as Waves STS series. The vibe is noise on noise on sound, like a spicy Chinese takeaway modelled on the 'pavement pizza fortune cookie' jam. This is to state that, "Motormouth" by The Sour Yule Log's alias inspiration: the noise techno earworm of Ghostly's Audion. Indeed Ghostly International's dirty beat desecration - take "Par Avion" from 2017's Xeno & Oaklander collab, belies this mix. From two minutes at base to four minutes no waste, the mixology of the three tracks tries to define noise as skunk-trunked funk. Recommended for lovers of Mark Pritchard, Audion, Xeno & Oaklander and of course, the nitty gritty Detroitian planet of Surgeon.

Dredge & Tide Driven - Intervals LP Honest and off-kilter, although as painfully simple to the way of the intervened phrase; this new work from Dredge and Tide Driven starts off with a yearning keyboard sound, proceeds to synthesise with an echoed piano in the vein of post-rock band Mono, with a dash of "An Accidental Memory In The Case Of Death" Eluvium about the spherical noticeboard. The LP-length set of 2-4 minute vignettes keeps a low profile; alone the acoustic piano works off decay and sustain to posit the ineffectual mood. As the five minutes of the piece unfolds, elements of nouveau art deco musings - not vocal, just the attempt at clusters - sings out of the main suite, much like the Humpty Dump if we are comparing with a drum beat. Morose and affecting, maybe, but to me it's just lounge Muzak with its mind fitfully stuck in a Tai Chi sixties tape machine. Dredge - Meteorology - exclusive 8 minute weather forecast of early Summer - for Peter Van Cooten www.ambientblog.net Regardless of how au fait you are with meteorology (the study of weather systems), this new track by Dredge, the alias Mick of Foci's Left label and FL uses for drawn-out basic dronescapes, is at least something to attempt questioning. Mick saw a bright axis approach the end of Summer last year (2020) and wanted to capture one year (then) to Summer anew (now). With lighter sections, mainly band-standed by succulence in modal territory, Mick sent this out when the piece wasn't a hard sell - and unpredictable enough - to be repeated six times its saved length. It is an idea M coined off PvC - the author of www.ambientblog.net - for PvC's collection of advanced mix tapes that layer many tracks together in a time-belted, asteroid-crumbling fusion of parts. To the track's credit, it's definitely listenable, but it's key to be very critical of, termed-"basic" by its founder, ambient and drone such as this. The general arc of "Meteorology" appears, sonically at best, to describe weather in a similar way to the diseased lockdown; that written, it's different, as Dredge does in the way it handles the memory of Summer itself - just see one of Dredge's key music inspirations: the dragged-out douerness of Leyland James Kirby and, to its end, the sometimes aptly classed "new age Muzak" of Robert Rich from around 1989 onward. M. Buckingham, the maker of the Dredge alias and the Foci Left flashback repository of releases on Bandcamp, narrows his artistic vision (Buckingham is 33, figuring the smaller influence belt) to somewhere similar to the Sakamoto and Willits sound of 12k Records. For all it explains about weather, it's whether or not, each feedback layer.
Tide Driven & Dredge - Compos Mentis
The third track in "Intervals" work by Dredge and Tide Driven, nods back to the seminal work of the Eno brothers and of course, their "Apollo: Atmospheres And Soundtracks" creations. During the amass of elimination for this LP, previously the producers had felt a bit fed up with their serenity sound. The result was saved, and this is the uniform result - a second take rather than a noise orgy. From wanting to crash the slumber party, to a sleepy-sepia-tinted glimmer of peace and reverie. It remains one of FL and Dredge's most peaceful tidal washes of sound, much like "Uncoated Cupboard" on Mick's newest Omni LP, "My Life In Bits And Pieces".
