big mom fan here.
take a look at their label
sonig, which distributes all their releases and lots of fine music by artists they like.
the first two albums, vulvaland and iaora tahiti, are, by their own admittance, a bit underdeveloped.
their first release in their mature style is autoditacker in 1997, which is like very dense, electronic krautrock and probably exemplies their sound best.
in the same year they released instrumentals, which is a bit more subdued and dark, it's my favourite record by them.
in 1998 they put out glam, a rejected soundtrack for a film project with tony danza (
). it's an atypically quiet, moody ambient record and another one of my favourites.
beautiful cover too.
in 2000 came niun niggung, which basically pushes the sound of autoditacker farther by using more digital processing and adding live instrumentation.
idiology (2001) and radical connector (2004) are a change of direction for mom :
both go more into a weird dance/rnb direction and make heavy use of the processed vocals of drummer dodo nkishi. idiology adds more live instruments, while radical connector includes female vocals by sonig artist niobe.
this year they put out a live record, live 04, which rocks.
the rost pocks compilation from 2003 collects most of their singles, among them the essential cache coeur naif ep with laetitia sadier, which is like the missing link between classic mom and their current sound.
another higly recommended record is uni umit, by jan werner's side project lithops. it's like a looser, moodier lo-fi mom, and one of my favourite records ever. i can't understand why it is so widely ignored, it is one of the best electronic records of the 90ies.
mom also put out a book last year, which i posted about in the currently reading thread.
btw, here's a cool sound on sound interview with jan werner :
