i would definately shop a round a bit more than buying stuff from maplins, try more specialist electrical/electronic components store, i ended up having to buy a serial cable from there and it cost me a tenner Roll

as for the soldering it's all about practise Smile
yeah, i need to practise loads. I thought id started to get my head round it.

Also, yeah i know maplins are a bit shit/ripoff, but i have a store locally and a kit on the desk and a spare day so i was itching to get going. Wont make that mistake again.

Cheers

Nice update Ben. I've changed the thread title to something more befitting.

Since buying the Sammich I've been looking at more DIY kits so maybe this is the start of something more beautiful for me. Then again knowing my lack of focus it'll be something I get obsessed with then go off leaving the kits I bought half built Hahaha

I've got a couple of basic £10 soldering irons. Are these not really suitable? Maybe the tip is too fat for this kind of thing.
still not got a conclusive answer re types of solder, will post up on sos diy forum. Bugbrands geezers been dead helpful but not responded to that query.

Either there or on the shruthi forum, hes dead helpful as well.
Here's my soldering irons. They're not cordless so easily get tangled. Didn't realise one is a pointed tip. Maybe useful. Are these any good?

did you order your kit from the mutable instruments site? noticed theyre sold out
Yeah thats the only place to get them.

Another 200 kits on the way but the last 100 sold out in 2 days - email him to get notified. Dead freindly and helpful Smile

You can always just buy the 2 pcbs and buy all the bits from RS or something but lots of faff.

Theres some bloody geniuses out there.
