this month (#353) looks like being:

Boards of Canada - Tomorrow's Harvest
http://www.juno.co.uk/products/tomorrows...491153-01/

but I'm still going through this issue, checking things that seem interesting

this is pretty good too:

Marisa Anderson - Mercury
http://marisaanderson.bandcamp.com/

and this:

Okkyung Lee - Ghil

Eh?

Statto Wrote:Boards of Canada - Tomorrow's Harvest

Downloaded that from eMusic before I even saw it in the July issue. Mixed thoughts on it at the moment. Mostly decent, some great moments, some oddball. But a nice take on it by Abi Bliss.

It seems they've completely ignored me now. I sent them my album, offered to write for them again, mentioned the FTAL thread on SC with 32,600+ page views. Nada. Oh well.

Maybe I sounded too insincere, but I've only had one listen to it and the vibe is different to "The Campfire Headphase". Not what I expected, more ominous and disorientating.

If you like that, try this...

From the "Sadly, The Future Is No Longer What It Was" 3CD from 2009. Reviewed in The Wire, too, at the time.

Wasn't that always a large part of what made them interesting, though? I couldn't get on with Geogaddi precisely because it lacked that sort of atmosphere...

Yes, I think a large part of the appeal of BoC has always been their versatility. But even though they're versatile, they have enough uniting elements in all their music to keep fans hooked, but always towing the line behind them, so we never quite know what'll happen.

On second listen I really like it, now I've got used to it. Favourites are "Reach For The Dead" and "Nothing Is Real". Xyxthumbs

... shameless Lol

In my defense, after reading that review I realised that the lyrics for one of the tracks were actually penned by Chris Cutler of Henry Cow fame. So, that should get yer juices flowin Jon !

Interested in what this sounds like, purely going by the name. Revelation Space is an awesome sci-fi gothic space opera novel by Alastair Reynolds.

Sounds like their equipment broke but they kept playing anyway Grin

Actually that's a bit unfair. It gets rather good towards the end.

Quite a lot of good stuff in this month's Wire (#354), not going to be easy to pick one. At the moment I'm looking at these:

Steamboat Switzerland - Zeitschrei
http://www.junodownload.com/products/ste...189090-02/

Nohome - Nohome
http://www.junodownload.com/products/noh...234316-02/

Aoki Takamasa - RV8 (Raster-Noton)
http://www.junodownload.com/products/aok...2221006-02

and the last volume in the Sub Rosa Anthology of Noise & Electronic Music series (but I'll probably just get this anyway so it doesn't count)

the dBridge is okay – of course I like Death of a Drum Machine best, which "is more of a standard drum 'n' bass throwback to 1997" Wink

the Friction & Skream... "is so far removed from all notions of tastefulness that it just has to be applauded" – or just quickly turned off Icon_razz

no, just thinking Wink

your sister's LP looks interesting, but I can't find any audio anywhere (apart from one track on her soundcloud) and I don't buy anything on spec anymore

Well done for getting your name in The Wire 355's Letters page Jon Xyxthumbs

I didn't read that issue - it wasn't aesthetically pleasing enough. Will go back to it next year when my sub runs out.
