which of these have you heard / would you recommend Icon_question

picked up the 'lovers' box set today which is cool (despite a few dodgy covers) ...

good value though at £9.99 for about 50 tracks
Wait until the sales start in Virgin & HMV - they always have a few of the boxes even cheaper!

The white rastafari one... Lovesmilie
Mate had the big box set of em all - fecking class!
mine just says "dub box set", with 50 tracks.

Hahaha

if they were true to their name they'd have holes in them...
I've got the Skinhead and Ska box sets. The recordings on the Skinhead set are horrible in most cases, but at that price for 3 discs it seemed like a steal.

The Ska set is alright but most of the tunes are classics you can get off the Specials, Desmond D, Bad Manners and Selecta albums with superior sound quality (almost all of the recordings are live).

I'd say they're "eh"... As for the rest, I couldn't tell ya'.

Got the black dub one, should be getting a few more soon. Wasn't hugely impressed with the one i've got but there are a few gems on there.
To be fair, they have rather flooded the market with them, swamping the quality with too much quantity!
Not impressed with alot of these boxsets - the dubs, rastafari and reggae collections are alright, but some of the others are crap!

they sell them all for a fiver or so in fopp btw - corner of covent garden & shaftesbury avenue.

had a proper listen to the lovers one last night and it is cool but they probably should have left it as 2 cds as about 1/3 of the tracks aren't anything special ..

These box sets are a cunning way of making you think you've got a steal when in fact if they took the 12 best tracks off each I'd be prepared to pay as much. Got the first two dub ones, might as well have just bought the first one
"warm like your triple goose with hands like a masseuse"
Yeah I got the Dub vol 2 and the roots reggae cds...

not really .. i think you gotta stick with the dub ones for the bits when they drop everything out other than the vocals ..

nice for a change though as they are all a bit more chilled than a lot of the heavier / darker stuff i normally listen to ..

got the white rastafari one today .. they gonna pick up the roots one next week (£7 in fopp Grin)
the SLOC compilations are much better tho Grin Wink
