New Electronica Project-Your help needed.

67 Replies, 6077 Views

I've just started work on a new lp which is based more in electronica than d&b but still has d&b elements within it (what do I do that doesn't?)

It's gonna be embracing everything I hold dear from the past 3 decades of synthesized music from Tangerine Dream to Caberet Voltaire to Miles Davis/Herbie Hancock,Sun Ra to The Orb & Orbital to Vince Clarke to Bjork to King Tubby & so on & so forth.....

Rambling blurbs aside....

My problem is once it's finished what labels are out there who put out stuff like this?
Anyone on here perhaps?

Any kind of info/contacts would be very much appreciated peeps.

Cheers in advance.

Unheard of unless you're AO, in which case you know every label will lap up everything you make Smile

huh?? Not unheard of? nah man I've known artists to mak albums before getting a deal.....it happens more outside D&B to be fair.....
sound interesting Colin! honestly i don't know what labels would be most likely to put something like this out? I'll have to leave the suggestions to other people but there's got to be a few out there?! good luck!!! Grin
sounds interesting, ao. maybe a label like ~scape ( http://www.scape-music.de/), morr music (http://www.morrmusic.com) or city centre offices (http://www.city-centre-offices.de/). i don't have any of their recordings but from reviews i've read they cover a wide spectrum of electronica. maybe check the websites or find some stuff by artists releasing there.
Yeah,it's a very common occurence outside of d&b.

Get the lp done & shop it round to labels you feel will be interested.

There's guys I've come across like Delsin,Rush Hour,Music 4 Speakers who I would luv 2 do an album for but we'll see what develops there Wink

Quasar has just taken something for a double cd/lp project he's putting together which was just composed from me editing sounds from household objects in Logic & making various noisebeds & sounds as the backbone to the composition.

So hopefully that'll do well & opens the door to many other things.

you've released on those labels already but from the description you gave your project sounds a little bit different to the stuff they usually release. but worth trying, i guess. Grin

true,but it's worth a try.

Unfortunately guys like Warp are not taking any new artists on board at the moment (according to their website) so that avenue is not open at the mo Icon_sad

oh, what about straight ahead from switzerland ( http://www.straightaheadrec.com)? they released the last hidden agenda album.
yo I know a label!!! It's called Rylo7 recordings!!! --> Have you ever thought about putting it out yourself? maybe that way you'd get more money out of it too as well as control. You've practically got enuff people addicted to your sounds so maybe it could work?!?!?!

Have you tried something like Planet E?

Lets make d+b special for 2009!

Yeah, how about the R connection - e.g. the 4 Hero spin off labels (twisted funk etc)?

Or sell it to a major! Teef
Majors are a headache & only jump on things once they're proven sellers so really lack vision in a MAJOR (see what I did their???) in what they put out & push.

But at the same time have the funds & means to really push the music in places it will be noticed & seen & heard.

Maybe Planet-Mu. My mate is having something released on there in November (he's a totally new signing, but has about 16 years professional production experience). Really fresh stuff like you've never heard before (anti-music they're calling it) and Mike P was well up for it. Plus the new Bizzy B is coming out on it (and the full version of 16 track relick will blow your head off, trust me).

I can hook you up with my mate and/or you can contact Mike through the site. He'll be up for it.

nah!

its all about selling to the majors.

They THRIVE on the underground. Wink
try the post-everything website (forget the url, should be easily searchable), the labels involved have Icarus as well as a bunch of other experimental acts with very broad influences who can't easily be pigeonholed.
