jay, you cant be serious?

pick a culture or country from around the world, and there's a little microcosm of it in toronto. also, arts, theatre, music - for a n.american city, toronto is one of the better ones.
ALPHA OMEGA Wrote:has anyone heard of Nova Scotia?

Man that place looks breathtaking!!!!

Nova Scotia is a nice place - real friendly province. doesnt get quite as cold in the winter there as say montreal or calgary. maybe a bit milder than toronto. but Nova Scotia does get a lot of snow.

if you absolutely hate the cold - dont move to montreal or calgary.

if you can deal with say 3 months of actaul cold wheather - toronto, halifax (nova scotia) are fine.

if you dont want any cold and can pay more money - vancouver, BC.

3 bed Toronto apartment 130k canadian dollars Icon_eek

That's around 70k euro's,heck you couldn't buy a bucket to piss in in the roughest part of Dublin for that money Lol

come to canada :P
Seems like there's a good education system out there & health care too which are both great signs for when you want to raise a family & also get medical treatment when your in your old age!

But aren't the taxes rather high in Canada????

& what is your tax free alllowance before the 1st tax bracket comes into play???

Oh & as for cold weather,I detest it!

but strangely I LOVE SNOW!!!!!! Nice clean, white snow where you can enjoy it & go ski-ing & shit not the mushy, grey, filthy kind of shit we get in England Icon_evil
http://www.tradewindsrealty.com/cgi-bin/...20-%201446

check this out in Nova scotia....

That's great value for money & the place/area/city looks beautiful.

On top of that the peace & quiet I would get means my production rate would reach astronimcal levels Icon_eek

list if you will...cultural contributions Toronto has made to the world in the past fuck...200 years? (outside of say some cistic fibrosis developments)

just because we have a melting pot doesn't mean we have are some kind of cultural capital. culture is deeper than just who desides to immigrate and get assimilated into your country.

not all of canada is cold (just most of it). i live in the most south-western
part of canada and it's fairly mild. places like vancouver and the island are
very very mild year round. comparable to londontown

consdiering canada as a country is not even 200 yrs old, you're right, aisde from some important scientific contributions, toronto (or canada) as a whole has not made any great cultural contibutions to the world.

what i was getting at is that, since many people from around the world move to toronto - they contribute their culture to the city. and i wouldnt say you get assimilated in this country. i mean, there's the obvious dominate culutre that influences that - but there's still a stong sense of individual cultural identity in the city. canadian identity has become so open and undefined in the last 20yrs because of it.

taxes are high, that is true. but the benefits to show for i think are worth it.

not sure about the tax info thing. look on the government of canada website for info like that i guess.
i think toronto is aces.

it's the perfect size...you can know it, but there's still tonnes of great communities with their own distinc flavour. we're clean, and you have all the benefits of a major metropolis: theatre, opera, literature, film, fine dining, etc.

in answer to 0=0: knifehandchop, michael ondjaate, margaret atwood, timothy findley, carol shields, the canadian opera company, bogdan, a thriving electronic music community, dionne brand, northrop frye, john irving, etc. all call toronto home. a tonne of prominent jazz musicians: pat lebarbera, etc. all call toronto home.

the cool thing about toronto is even if those people weren't BORN here, they're a part of our community now...and contribute.

i'm by no means nationalistic but i think we have it pretty fucking good over here and i'm proud of it.

plus we have modern plumbing.
vancouver BLOWS.

it's full of richies and retirees...boooooooooring. although it does have a standout punk scene.

I reckon Canada would be good for a year or 2 though.

Just need 2 check out some sites & see what rent/living expenses would be for the year.

depending where you thinking of moving to. place like nova scotia probably require very little to get by. if its toronto then renting costs can be high but still cheaper compare to other europian major cities. living/renting for a year or two wouldnt rinse your wallet out.
its good time to invest and buy a property as the interest rates are low right now.

hmnn sounds good.

Even working out how little I could have in the studio, equipment wise to make any move easier for myself.

I reckon pc laptop with TC Firewire,M-Audio firewire soundcard,a bunch of software & wavelab & Nuendo or Sampltitude as the main sequencer.

Then a Nord g2 & all my sample library should give mme enough ammo for a year or 2's work out in the land of moose & Deer....Canada!!!!

Lol
