What is Florida really like?

Been checking out some property over there & the value for money seems unreal!!!!!

3 bed detached houses for around 100k euros

& I know cost of living is cheap over there,infact a mate of mine has just come back from there (he was there while all the hurricanes were hitting & he loved it) & he bought a full nike tracksuit,t-shirt & a pair of trainers (sneakers) all for less than 100 us Dollars

But what's the place like to live????

Crime rate high? Low?

Weather???? (Nice I know,except for when hurricanes rip the whole city apart!)

What's the vibe there like????

most things are really cheap..and by cheap i don't just mean the price.

it really depends on where you go...

where you looking at CL? miami is nuts and pretty expensive. tampa area (tampa, st. pete, clearwater) is affordable & chill-tons of beaches.

well, i'm from Florida myself... have to say, life there growing up is FAST! a lot of drugs and crime, plenty of shit to get into for sure!

it's HOT as shit in the summer and warm pretty much all year round especially if you live in the southern half of the state.

i like it overall i suppose, a lot of very pretty places, i like to canoe and shit like that so there are tons of canopy covered rivers and springs etc. the beaches are some of the most beautiful in the world for sure.

it's definitely not going to win any cultural awards, pretty white bread sort of place due in large part to the tourism industy and the fact that there are so many retirees.

It's kind of pointless to overgeneralize Florida into one single entity. Like anywhere it depends where you're at. Miami is pretty socially progressive. I'd love to live there but it's pretty expensive. A city like Jacksonville in the North has some flavor to it (and a modest EDM scene) but it's close to Georgia so you get some of that redneck asshole vibe underlying the big picture. Orlando is similar but instead of the redneck vibe you get all the disney tourists.

The worst thing about Florida is that it's hard to find decent job with some sort of career ladder. It's mostly service industry nonsense catered to serve the tourists that visit and the all retirees that move down there. I can however vouch for the titty bars in Jacksonville. The touching that was not allowed was excused.

Haven't you seen Miami Vice?

lots of old people. also, friends say Miami has a practically nonexistent music scene.

Move to Miami and throw a WMC/M3/SC house party next year.

I have to agree witht the person who said you cannot generalize about all of Florida, the north of the state is certainly more like the "American South" and the southern part of the state is more like living up north culturally i suppose, not too many people down there have southern accents and there is certainly more cultural diversity in Miami than there is in Tallahassee... I'd never live in Miami though Colin!

As far as the crime, i don't think it's probably any worse than California or Texas or the like? There is a good bit of crime there but if you don't sell drugs or involve yourself in anything shady then your ofcourse most likely going to be a ok!

toronto has on average about 60 murders a year. which is very low for a city this size in n.america. plus toronto has all the culture anyone in the world would need.

montreal is good - but damn cold in the winter - and hlaf th city speaks french.

calgary is nice - affordable, but damn cold in the winter

vancouver is prolly the nicest city - but the most expensive.

i'm from tampa-i'm here working for the next yr on some graphic business, saving some flow & then i'm relocating again. btw, check yer PM's.

for the record, a lot of people in south & central FL are transplants - from the northern states, puerto rico, cuba, or haiti. generally, the accents start the more north you go in the state, like north of here.

north florida = swamp country, racism, jeb bush
south florida = sweltering heat, amazing beaches, and BEAUTIFUL WOMEN

it is a great place to visit tho
went down to sanabel island a few years ago, and have nothing but good memories of the sanabel/ft. myers areas

considering that aswell,if only for a year or two but

1.Tax is quite high over there so I'd be losing quite a bit of my income just on that whereas here I pay no tax since musicians are exempt.

2.Canada can get REAL COLD!!!!!!! I don't like cold wetaher at all,which is why I don't live in the UK anymore & don't want to stay here since Ireland gets far colder than the uk.The 1st time I felt winter here I nearly cried

That's around 70k euro's,heck you couldn't buy a bucket to piss in in the roughest part of Dublin for that money

oh wait actually I've found out it works out at 80k euro........so you might be able to buy a bucket & a rag to piss in out in Tallaght for that kind of money but don't hold your breath.......
