People of America, the US voting system

So I read the first chapter of 'Stupid White Men' by Michael Moore last night.

The chapter is entitled 'A Very American Coup', and it goes on to describe the complete underhanded, illegal, and utterly immoral actions taken by W and his friends / family during the Elections, particularly of course in Florida.

I'm sure much of this is already well documented and well understood by most of you, (if not let me know and I'll try and post a few quotes up), but what I really want to know is - if I paid a visit to the States for example, and talked to people randomly regarding these issues - how many of them would be aware of what really happened. How many would be aware that Gore really did win (like him or not!) ??
i dont know...i think they dont give a shit anyway...the average man from the street is too igbnorant anyway...
hmmm... i'd like to see some of those quotes if you can be arsed Wink

i've heard a bit about what happened, including the supreme court basically declaring gw pres despite recounts. i don't really think the average american does know. not really, they probably have an idea, i mean, it was rather plain when it happened Roll but, with the war on terrorism goin on, most ppl want to back the man, show support for the nation. patriotism and such.

truthfully though, that is mearly the tip of the iceberg. there is so much corruption in politics around the world that a major uprising of the civilians is about all that will stop it. but, if there is an uprising, or something does happen to the us gov't or any other major gov't around the world... who's gonna take control? scary thought really... could be that these saps might truely be the best at running nations that there are

The truth is -- most Americans that I know could care less. There's generally an attitude of indifference among most people I know when it comes to anything political.. For the most part, peopls are more interested in who's going to the Super Bowl than who's running the country.
they have massive problems with getting people to vote at all, the fact that their votes don't count in the same way ours do is possibly why. It's only happened once in US history where the people voted for 1 candidate but the other won the primaries and hence the presidency but it's still bollocks as far as I can tell.

Go to http://www.sohh.com and ask the same question, believe me you will get some interesting answers but I reckon the view that most don't get it prolly rings true
