This Saturday night @Timbuk2: LOCO- Gordon Kaye (renaissance) Dr Moody (Blowpop)

We are pleased & privileged to once again invite you to Go LOCO with a sure recipe for insomnia @ Timbuk2 for yet another night of Twisted Electronic House music

Ripping it up in the main room for his LOCO debut will be Renaissance & Yoshitoshi signed Legend Gordon Kaye, with Blowpop superstar Doctor Moody rocking the back room.

Room>1 DJ GORDON KAYE.....

Gordon Kaye began his fixation with music and records from an early age and was Djing in pre-club bars in his Brighton hometown in 1984. The following year he started his own weekly club night, "The Sunshine Playroom" at the Escape Club. This was the most prolific indie night in the U.K. and was frequented by regular faces including Alan Mc Gee, Primal Scream and Norman Cook. The club's music policy continuously pushed musical boundaries and it was not unusual to hear The Velvet Underground next to Motown, Sly Stone, Sixties Psychedelia, New Order, The Beastie Boys, James Brown, Orange Juice or The Teardrop Explodes, (the club itself took it's name from a Julian Cope single).

Gordon had moved into a more dance-orientated territory by 1989, By the end of 1990 Gordon was Djing at some of the best dance nights throughout the UK, making regular appearances at such clubs as "Venus","Renaissance", "Chuff Chuff", "Up Yer Ronson" and "Back to Basics".

As a partner in "Joy For Life" records Gordon opened the first branch in Brighton and by 1993 there was a second branch in Nottingham.1993 became an extremely hectic year with an ever-increasingly busy DJ schedule. Mix Mag also commissioned Gordon to compile and mix their Mix Mag Live Volume 8 "New Bloods" collection alongside John Digweed.

Gordon was signed to D.M.C.'s Stress Recordings under this moniker and went on to release three singles for them between June 1994 and September 1997. Developing his taste for the recording studio, Gordon produced material for a whole host of labels (Shindig, Solid Ground/Strongroom, Café Del Mar Volume 3 on React and Whoop!) and remixed for labels such as Polydor, D.M.C., Manifesto and AMPM, using a handful different pseudo names.

"Joy For Life" also became one of the Midlands most popular monthly club nights, rotating such guest Djs as Paul Oakenfold, Boy George, Rocky & Diesel, Norman Jay, Graeme Park and Jon of the Pleased Wimmin.

1995 saw Gordon present his first Radio One "Essential Mix" for Pete Tong. Gordon’s latest “Essential Mix” was broadcast by Radio One to rapturous applause on 03.03.02.

In 1996 Gordon compiled and mixed one part of a three-pack CD collection for Stress entitled "DJ Culture 3: The International Series". This tied in well with his first tour of Australia, which has become an annual event, now incorporating Singapore, Hong Kong and New Zealand.

December 1998 saw Gordon join Galaxy Radio's ever-increasing roster of club DJ's. He presented his own monthly mix, Saturdays as part of "The Galaxy Weekend" (other monthly guests on rotation include Paul Oakenfold).

During his career Gordon has been voted numerous times in the top 100 international DJ's in idj/mixmag/muzik

In recent years Gordon’s studio projects have mutated into collaborations with Mike Monday as AutoKat (Yoshitoshi), Nick Hook as Subterfuge (React), Ken Reay as Apogee (Junior Boys Own / Appalooso), Kevin Freeman as Kaye & Freeman and Steve Butler as Panis Box (Kaos), but he is probably best known for his chart-storming remix of Kosheen’s “Catch”.

After a number of years in the studio, Gordon Kaye is now back on the DJ scene with recent gigs at  CREAM , “RULIN” (Ministry of Sound, London) / “THE RED BOX” (Dublin) / PACHA (Globally)  “THE GALLERY” (Turnmills, London) “RENAISSANCE” (Various) “LUSH” (Kelly’s, Portrush, N. Ireland) “DEEP” (Club Q, Zurich) & is buzzing about a rare outing to Bristol with his debut appearance at Timbuk2 with LOCO.

Room>2 DJ DOCTOR MOODY......

The music that played the soundtrack to his teens was a random mixture of the late 80s indy rock and the massive rave revolution that was changing the face of clubbland forever. using fake id the doctor visited the legendry hacienda in manchester several times at the beginning of the end of this now infamous club.

During university the doctor was a hippy and developed his interests in chi energy and eastern medicine. The doctor studied biochemistry and messed around a lot with dangerous chemicals and d.n.a but he never quite regained his liking for science when he learned that the electron doesn’t really exist.
Doc m:-" if you go through school and college with an interest in science you soon learn all about the atom with its whizzing orbits and dense centre.of its huge importance..everything is made up of them. then when you actually look there not there its like all made up to fit the mathematics no one actually knows wot an atom is really like".

After university the doctor moved to the midlands of the uk,at this time the jungle scene had exploded and the doctor teamed up with with a crew of djs playing intelligent drum and base around nottingham. The doctor suggested taking out samplers stuffed full of samples from martial arts films and funk records that he could play live with the dj. and it was an instant succsess on the dance floor, adding a whole new dimension to the audio adventure.the doctor also joined a band playing samplers and synth in a prodigy kind of way.the doctor listend to a lot of breakbeats.and trip hop and acid jazz.
The doctor then moved to bristol attracted by the sounds of massive attack ,portishead and the bristol beat.just as dr moody landed in bristol a tiny beats club had opened its doors the night was called blowpop and it was held in an electrick underground club called the blue mountain fronted by the pioneering djs mr craig and john stapleton.

As doctor moody joined the blowpop team three fresh faces also came on board. playing a harder breaks sound like slowed down drum and bass mixed with fast funk. a sound that was so ahead of its time that it would take a couple of years before the phrase new school breaks would be coined.these pioneering djs were stereo 8.

With the heavy dope on plastic beats of john stapleton, block party hip hop from all funked up the latin breaks of mr craig and the rave beats of stereo 8 mixed up with doctor moodys jedi red eye cuts and drops.the legendary team blowpop was created. becoming the uks number one club night(mixmag) and continuing to keep at the front of the club scene in the uk by having the only musical policy of `is it any good`.

In 2000 the doctor had his first official release with a tune called chubbaholic written with an old atari a couple of low bit rate samplers a yamaha home keyboard and a whole rack full of effects units .a lesson in sound design this would be later used for the bmw x3 advert. On a live tip the doctor fronted the band moodydood. playing a forward thinking sound with the doctors signature drums and bass and sublime voicals and guitar from dood they had a fantastic run of gigs notably at glastonbury ,the eclipse festival and ashton court. The doctor also played live as scratch master for the funk outfit cantaloop who rocked many a stage from brixton to the black country.

The doctor worked in a number of studios for the next few years not only in writing dance floor killers in every genre.but for an underwater documentry and a rescore for a classic film .which was later performed live at a special re run at the cube bristol .with live strings a collection of medeaval instruments and a rackfull of samplers n decks.

Doctor moody now fronts the legendary Ill patients, a four piece futurefunk dance band .with there evergrowing list of gigs .from rocking the main stage at ashton court to taking the roof off the bristol academy.this year saw them rock the city with a live gig in the city centre.

The good doctor has been running the studio unreal2reel now for a couple of years producing bands, remixs and music for tv and film. Composing classical chill out to fat beat Ill out, analogue to digital audio to visual.
To date the blowpop crew continue to lead the way with appearances across the uk ,the east, australia, europe and the states, spreading a smily face and a funky bass across a loving race.with the best music created and yet to be created.
