curious to find out what the strangest bit of music people on here listen to...please links or exact names if you could so people can search it out. I know usually when u like it, you don't think it's strange, but when other people hear it, whats an artist that makes them say , "who or what the fuck is that?"
for me, i love the residents - seen them three times, can't wait for the next.

Cecil Taylor - Unit Structures.
What
the
fuck.
But it is possible to get into it if you try. Very hard

the residents
i used to have the incredibly rare santa dog 7" but i sold it
Probably a lot of the noise and droney ambient stuff I listen to i.e. Merzbow, Masonna, MSBR, Bastard Noise, Knull, AMM, James Plotkin etc.
Also remember that some people used to go "what the fuck" when I played them Song X by Pat Metheney/Ornette Coleman
One of the strangest ones I've come across recently is Kindermusik: Improvised Music by Babies! http://www.amorfon.com/HTM/AMO005.HTM

harry partch, that's a name i haven't heard in a long while :d
current 93
pretty, wierd and rather haunting neo-folk with totally awesome lyrics (if you like james joyce and mysticism that is)
dead raven choir
the most wierd and interesting band i've come across in the past few years. the head honcho smolken recites in various mental and chemical conditions selected pieces of poetry over folk that goes from super harsh guitar noise with the occasional banjo to uneasening and almost as loud acoustic drones via sparse and quiet cabaret-sort of music. demented, funny and very beautiful at the same time

yip-yip
Seen them 2or3 times and they are mighty good live
Drum machines and synths lotsa bass
and they are dressed up in straight jacket looking things with rollerskates on and have there voices all tweaked out and highpitched
kinda looks like aliens rockin out
I'll do a search see if i can find anything
"All things serve the beam,"
my brother is always trying to skullfuck me with compliation tapes i dont know whether to play again or burn.. with stuff like The Shaggs, and all kinds of whatNOT

Hahaah, ye Current 93!! First track on this: http://www.discogs.com/release/104001 . It's not scary, it's a bit mental though...
Hmm, weird stuff. Iszoloscope, Richard Devine is a bit weird , DJ Freak's recent stuff (adding some stuff today), La Peste (adding some stuff today), Somatic Responses (Potere Occulto/Xynomorph (hah, guess what?... :P) ), Krylon Hertz, Einleitungszeit, Le Talium has done some weird things. Coil...
When I sober up, I'll remember some others.
Some sonically strange but interesting stuff :
Ami Yoshida - Tiger Trush
It's a solo improvisation for voice, but you wouldn't believe that the noises on this come from a human being, it sounds more like heavily processed insect noises or something...
http://www.japanimprov.com/ayoshida/index.html
Sachiko M & Toshimaru Nakamura - Do
Strangely beautiful improvisations with 'empty sampler' and 'no input mixing board', which basically amounts to feedback and sinewaves, but it's pretty amazing what rich textures these two get from such a minimal setup.

Les Rallizes Desnudes
Japanese 70ies psychedelic rock band, who didn't do anything really special musically, but all their records (all live bootlegs) were so badly recorded that the distortion took on a life of its own, it sounds like MBV 20 years early.
They never released a studio album because it apparently was a bit hard to get a deal after one of their members abducted an airplane to North Korea.
German Oak - st
Probably the srangest krautrock album evah.
http://www.headheritage.com/unsung/albumofthemonth/290
Furze - Necromanzee Cogent
Some norwegian dude who manages to sound like Amon Düül I doing black/doom metal
http://metal-archives.com/band.php?id=10020
Lyrical theme(s): War, Freedom, Glory, Honor, Heavy Metal

Unfortunatley I really can't get into this guy's voice.
there's a lot of good shit in this thread! stuff that has made me go WTF:
- The Happy Flowers
- Brainticket
- Morton Subotnick
- People (from Israel)
- Sigh
- John Zorn + Yamataka Eye (collabs)
- Derek Bailey
- Black Mayonnaise
- Blixa Bargeld (guy from Einst. Neubauten's solo stuff)
- Crispin Glover (the actor, his album from the 80s is fucking surreal)
- Stretcheads
- obvious, but has anyone mentioned Mr. Bungle yet?
- ditto on Naked City "Torture Garden", that is one of mankind's best albums!
- Violent Onsen Geisha
- The Gerogerigegege
oh yeah, definitely Diamanda Galas... she is totally fucked up, listening to stuff like "Plague Mass" literally makes me feel confused/happy/sad/scared/weird for the rest of the day.

Yea that's the one

and she's incredible live too
word, Derek Bailey's dnb LP is bizarre as hell, i remember it sounding really crude, and as if he just stapled his improvs to jungle beats... i love the fact that it actually exists! his solo stuff is pretty out there.
as for Blixa Bargeld... just really odd and grating sounds, crazy high-pitched squeals for entire tracks, etc. - another one of those "rather absurd that it exists" things.
hmm
karlheinz stockhausen
and
that is so crazy!!
