Heres the second one I promised. A 74 minute special ambient episode.
The Fear - Blogariddims 20/Shwantology : 3 Droid Wrote:Do a search for ambient mixes and youâll find about a million and a half links - of course not all go to DJ mixes, but itâs surprising to see just how many sets are out there. Unfortunately (with the odd exception) they're mostly insipid 'chillout' mixes, conforming to the Cafe del Mar Ibiza sunset post-rave definition of ambient - all soft sounds and rounded corners, texturally deficient, with no dissonance, darkness or dirt to unsettle the comedowns of their intended audience. This is 'Big chill' mixing with no contrasts, just a restricted range of complimentary colours - in many cases a sickly palette of pastels perfectly suited for soporific consumption. Given the general level of quality on display it's no surprise that many of the best ambient sets come from people who arenât bound by these ludicrously narrow genre definitions - non-DJs such as Blogariddims contributors Tim Rambler or Soundslike. In fact one of the main motivators for this entire project was the seemingly utter lack of ambient mixes with any kind of edge or bite to them... 1. 00:00 Kenneth Young - Edinburgh, Nursery Playground (http://www.soundtransit.nl) 2. 00:00 Popol Vuh - To A Little Way - Egg (Nosferatu O.S.T) 3. 00:00 Slug - Piano rec remix - The Fear - (Unreleased) 4. 00:00 On the J.Z. in Yugoslavia â The world of steam â Argo/Decca (Sound effects LP) 5. 00:02 Krystof Penderecki - Polymorph - Warner Brothers (The Shining OST) 6. 00:04 Ilhan Mimaroglu - Prelude for Magnetic Tape II, 1966-67 - AGP30 (Turnabout TV 34177) 7. 00:04 Tangerine Dream - Auferstehung - Ohr (Electronic Meditation LP) 8. 00:04 Davey Spillane â Lament for the dead of the north â Realworld (Lament LP) 9. 00:05 Deaf Center - The Clearing - Type Records (Pale Ravine LP) 10. 00:08 Supersilent - [Bonus Track] - Rune Grammofon (Supersilent 7 DVD) 11. 00:08 Joe Zawinul â In a silent way â Atlantic (Zawinul LP) 12. 00:11 Cotom - Loscil - Loscil.com (Stases LP) 13. 00:12 Svarte Greiner - Traditional Wood on Trees - Miasmah (Silva Comp) 14. 00:13 Alexander's Annexe - Push door to exit - WARP (Push door to exit EP) 15. 00:13 Brian Eno - Music for I Dormenti - Opal (Music for I Dormenti CD) 16. 00:14 Weightless â Reconciliation â Liquid records (Interaction LP) 17. 00:16 Unknown Concrete piece - Unknown - Unknown (Unknown) 18. 00:16 Slug - Harp - The Fear - (Unreleased) 19. 00:17 Biosphere - Translation - Touch (Autour de la Lune LP) 20. 00:17 Slug - Zeta remix - The Fear (Unreleased) 21. 00:17 Jacob Druckman - Incenters - Nonesuch (ANIMUS III, synapse>VALENTINE LP) 22. 00:17 Mestre Geraldo e sua bateria â Mistura #2 â Soul Jazz (Capoeira LP) 23. 00:17 The Soul Gun Warriors â Computer skit â (Unreleased) 24. 00:19 P16.D4 - He's afraid of the way the glass will fall.... - Oddsize (KÂuhe In 1/2 Trauer LP) 25. 00:20 Shankar â Twilight Mood â Angel/ EMI (Improvisations-west meets east- album 3 LP) 26. 00:21 Library Tapes - Broken piano pt.2 - Resonant(Alone in the bright lights of a shattered life LP) 27. 00:22 Rachel's - 4 Or 5 Trees - Quarterstick Records (Systems/Layers LP) 28. 00:22 pt.Bhimsen Joshi - Raga:Gaud Sarang Khayal Vilambit Ektaal - EMI (âMusical geniusâ LP) 29. 00:23 The Theatre of Eternal Music - The Tortoise, His Dreams and Journeys - Bootleg - (The Tortoise, His Dreams and Journeys) 30. 00:24 Ryan Teague - Study for Prepared Violin - Miasmah (Silva LP) 31. 00:27 Lull - Long Way Home - Sentrax (Cold Summer LP) 32. 00:27 Thomas Koner - Untitled (5:06) - Barooni (Nunatak Gongamur LP) 33. 00:27 Peter Goodchild/Tony DâAmato â A guide to better listening (excerpt) â decca (A guide to better listening LP) 34. 00:29 Caldara â Make me carry the death of Christ â Buddah records (Stabat mater LP) 35. 00:30 Pete Namlook - Silence - Rising High (The definitive Ambient Collection) 36. 00:31 J.K. Grevious Angel - Blogariddims 21 / Fusion Dub Grevious Angel Wrote:This time last year I was waaaaay deep into a series of pilgrimages deep into dubstep, a process that is still ongoing, though not as spiritually all-encompassing as it was. And part of my response to the influx of dubstep vibrations that have been flowing into me since 2005 has been a re-connection with deep dub sounds of⦠Miles Davis. My connection with Miles has always crossed over with dub, electronics and industrial. I got heavily into Miles, especially the electric period but also the Gil Evans orchestral period, at the same time as I got into Cabaret Voltaire â when I was 13, almost 14. It was only a year or so later that I realised how much of an influence he was on Richard Kirk and Stephen Malinder; all I knew was that the sonics and spaces of 2 X 45 were identical to On the Corner. In the same way as the threads connecting from the Cabs to acid to ardkore and thence to dubstep are obvious, for me, the thematic connection from Miles to dubstep is also clear, but itâs more a matter of influence than direct connection... 0:00 Miles Davis: Bitches Brew intro 0:59: Miles Davis: Agharta Prelude Dub 5:06: Miles Davis: Miles Runs the Voodoo Down (Edit) 12:19: Parliament: Dr Funkenstein (Live) (edit) 19:10: Miles Davis: What If 22:44: Curtis Mayfield: Stone Junkie (Live) 28:28: Miles Davis: Billy Preston 33:51: Headhunters: God Made Me Funky (Edit) 39:21: Miles Davis: Black Satin 43:14: Miles Davis: Bitches Brew (Edit) 46:59: Miles Davis: In A Silent Way / Shhh Peaceful (Bill Laswell dub) 54:49: Curtis Mayfield: I Plan To Stay a Believer (Live) 57:30: Miles Davis: Itâs About That Time Notes and More: http://blog.grievousangel.net/?p=373

Episode 22. A very nicely thought out set from musicologist and classical/contemporary maestro Tim Rambler.
Blogariddims 22 / Disintegrations The Rambler Wrote:Listening to Kwaidan on a Tokyo-bound train last December was where this mix started. There are strange links between Japanese traditional music and the European avant-garde, and I began sketching out a preliminary tracklist for a mix that would draw out some of these connections. Ultimately the most important connection is a particular sense of time: as the modern musical movement abandoned traditional notions of harmony, melody and rhythm, so the experience of time as something non-linear, cyclical and complex drew closer to some Asian concepts. Composers intermittently made such connections explicit through the 20th century by drawing heavily on Japanese and other oriental inspirations (Messiaen, Cage), but their discoveries had ramifications for the music of others who were not so heavily engaged with Eastern philosophies. The multi-faceted patterns of Boulezâs Third Piano Sonata are one example; the almost complete abandonment of pitch, harmony and rhythm for a purely sonic organisation that exists purely in the moment as exhibited by Pendereckiâs sonoristic music is another. Blogariddims 24 / Moving South Heatwave Wrote:So this mix is about first steps into new territory and giving over to what may come. It pulls together a lot of the music and ideas that Iâve found most-exciting and least genre-bound in the last few months. Nine of the 22 tracks in this mix come from either Shackleton, kode9 or Mala, each of whom, Iâve often said, is more like a genre unto himself than a representative of any broader style or collectivity. The other major contingent here comes from Bristol in the form of tracks by Pinch, Peverelist and Rob Smith-related projects (Appleblim and Bass Clef were meant to be on here as well but didnât fit in the end). There are also several remixes on here and a number of others would have made it into a longer mix.
