the cloak is being lifted...
I don't think this is going to change anything...
and even if you add president=democrat
won't make much difference will it?

look at the democratic national agenda, and compare that to the project for a new am. century (PNAC, or the republican agenda put forth in the late 1990s, which outlines what the us has done globally for the last 6 yrs.). although not providing the means for a utopia, this is at least a positive step in the direction of justice and truth in the american government. have you no faith in the democratic process and the prospect for a positive future? how would you then proport to realistically (and fairly) change the world if not through this process?
rumsfelds departure demonstrates that the present adminstration has no need for a actively agressive sec., as with the democratic congress, no more war bills will be passed. So hes being replaced by someone who will provide a proper exit strategy, in preparation for the next presidency.

so yes, things are going to change. people are dying because of an actively aggressive us presence in middle eastern countries, and that will change by the checks presented by the democratic congress.
so peanut butter jelly time.
i agree with jason.......even though it's the smallest of baby steps in the right direct, it is the only recourse one has.

you have to have some faith in democracy if you participate in it.

a much bigger step in the right direction would be if people stopped being so fucking apathetic about everything and at least took the time to consider their own personal agenda. maybe even vote every once in a while. who knows what could happen?
split ticket means no one can do shit Xyxthumbs

if only we could do that here Neutral
sure, you gotta have faith in this process and for me this gets harder every year... and yes, there is some changement on the details, but not on the big picture.
As long as the current damn old system stays, which wasn't inteded to be (ab)used by two big parties and connected to the third (or even main) party, money, it doesn't matter if the elephant rules or the donkey.

Both of them are grey, pretending to be the only light side but at the same time using the dark one

rumsfeld is just a pawn sacrifice, nothing more

Where do you get this from?

Theory and reality dont always see eye to eye, and in this world where powermongers take advantage of innocents, and exploit them on a global scale, yes it makes a huge difference. If we choose to hold out for a better way of government, we sit by while others take advantage of our lack of action. Idealism is one thing, avoidance is another.

One party clearly states that they will support america's dominance in the world by military power and control of the world's power supply, while the other promises to work with the rest of the world by pursuing a course of peace.

To me that is not the same thing, at all.

looks like they've got the senate as well Smile
Sorry for the lack of techno-political terminology, but

Rumsfeld's a fucking evil cunt and I hope he never has a hand in anything political ever again. If the UK is anything to go by though, he'll be buffing the president's helmet next week Neutral

We need a big fat Nelson 'HA HA!' in here...

he will retire a disgraced, extremely wealthy old man. there's a place in hell for him and his friends. Xyxthumbs

it sounds like the baker commission put another one of daddy's cronies in place to take over for him, which i guess is a good thing considering someone more competent than rumsfeld is in. but that said, it only goes to show how ineffective this administration has been.

all in all, the house & senate control means that very little will be able to get through in terms of the most recent republican political agenda-and remember, i think bush has only vetoed one bill to cross his desk...the fewest vetoes of all presidents i believe. this will solidify bush's lame ducki-ness (if a term exists.) that's said, unless the republicans all of a sudden see the writing on the wall (not likely), dems will probably not be able to pass minimun wage increases, prescription drug reform for seniors, etc.

my concern is how the dems will handle getting us out of iraq. i think the political pendulum is swinging back to the center nationwide, but if the dems fuck that up before '08 we could be back to the polarized politicking of the past 6 years.

we'll see. i'm cautiously optimistic. they're still politicians.
