Transferring video from MINI DV video camera to computer

What's the best way to do this ? Will I need a certain quality of video card ? Anybody know whas da whassup with this ? Also, a program i can use to edit the film and insert music and what not.

well, why dont you just use a mini dv cable into your firewire port and use windows movie maker to edit.. its all free.

there is also a good program to convert/compress/resize stuff, its called SUPER and its really good. can even convert flv's from youtube to avis, 3gps, n stuff.

moviemaker is actually very good at resizing etc

what pc do you have?

Well, I built it and would have to look up all the stats and parts again. But, I have Windows XP runnin.

so the motherboard didnt have a firewire port or anything?

Definately need to upgrade the whole shitz

u need a pci firewire card and a suitable fw cable for about 60€.

and u could use avid free dv http://www.avid.com/products/freedv/index.asp ... u only have to register to get it for free...

I just got a new better paying job, so will get a new computer soonish and make sure there is fire wire on the mother board.

so, to sum up the all advices -

4 gigs sounds good for me too and that 50 gb swap sounds like a good idea as well. Been archiving onto DVD every 4 months or so, but what if something happens within the 4 months.

Look for a thread in near future on what parts I should buy to have kick ass computer.
