critics ask themselves about Kevin Sawka since the Seattle drummer
started experimenting with drum 'n bass styles in the late '90s. The
upcoming release of Cyclonic Steel on Dualdisc -a new CD format that
is a cd on one side and a DVD on the other- demonstrates through both
audio and video the superhuman quality of his performances and
production.

Cyclonic Steel is a study in what electronic music has the potential
to be, particularly with Sawka's adeptness with acoustic sounds, jazz,
and rock techniques. Sawka's music isn't your typical drum'n'bass
affair; instead, the listener is presented with a sweaty, rhythmic
expedition into realms situated between contemporary breakbeat,
intense drum'n'bass, and new glitch, inspired by the work of
Dieselboy, Amon Tobin, and others.

Misses out on the whole 'throw an amen over that ragga acapella' strain, but its a reasonable attempt, and supports some of what Chris is saying.

Just for the record - Im hardly a cheerleader for that scene, but IMO C64 is generally on the money on this subject, as well as being one of the scenes best DJs.

but lets get back on topic and have an to kj sawka!! he will be recording with london electricity later this year, i can't wait to here some more live dnb with different drummers then the jungle drummer. macc you should record with them too! that would def be interesting!

its a prety decent documentary for whats its worth. i enjoyed it.

i hear you on the whole ragga thing man. couple years ago it seemed everyone was doing it. thats seemed to calm down a bit. but still, the raggacore thing is like state-side ragga jungle. mostly disposable and unimaginative.
