19" widescreen monitor appreciation

Just bought one of these (Samsung) for just £110+postage - BAD. Don't like having two monitors, and don't like having a huge bastard, but the widescreen bizzle is peeeerrrrrfect for audio action.

Yes

widescreen is very useful, i've got a 1920x1200 beast at work its great for keeping all your different windows up at once
apple cinema display ftw!
i have a 19" monitor but the resolution doesnt go up so high Thumbd

need to get a better one....
At work I have a 30" ... it's ridiculous Lol
20" iMac - was amazing when I first got it. Find myself wanting a little bit now but it's still a beaut.

Noticed your shoddy monitor in the pics of your tape deck and stuff Macc, wondered why the hell you had it!!
I just plug my laptop into my TV! Grin

Some sound engineers who mix for hollywood films mix down in an actual cinema (makes sense really) but some who do that use the actual cinema screen for their monitor!

2x22" W/S

Why dont you like 2 monitors? I couldnt live without em both now!
It gets right on my tits... Dunno why. I've hated it every time I have used it.

Keyboard shortcuts to bring up windows/put them away beats searching round 'where's that bloody window gone?' type action, for me anyway.

i can't work (or write tunes) without two monitors. It gets really frustrating not being able to have Excel, Word, Firefox, Outlook all easily visible and accessible at once. If i could be bothered to set up three, i would!
bare
that's exactly why i hate it!

one thing at a time Yes

im getting into spaces since one of my dvi ports died... am loving teh spaces!
Spaces is the way forward for me. One app on one space etc. Tried Virtue Desktop but never seemed to stay configured how I wanted it.

Agreed, don't like it myself. One big nice screen is spot on.
Spaces is great, and can still be used with a multi-monitor setup.

Spaces doesnt solve the problem of wanting to see two things at the same time lol
I'm exactly like Macc as well. I can't handle 2 monitors. For me it makes me think even more about where stuff is. I can't wait to get a big single monitor though...

Still using my little laptop one, hurts my neck...

gots me one a few months ago.
normal monitors look horrible now.
spaces is great

really impressed with the way it works with multiple monitors, i was expecting that to confuse it

cant handle more than one screen at once though, i love my 22" bad boy
I'd love to hook my laptop up to a projector. Best of both worlds.

And I always was a blanket in the window type anyway.

since we're already on the monitor tip.......nobody answered this when i posted in the main forum......

first: how does one get a display profile to be saved as the default monitor setting on boot-up? (i.e - NOT the settings in the actual display dialog, but the settings changes and profiles you can make on your graphics card control panel) Surely you should be able to make that default.

and...

can anyone think why/how a KVM would be causing display settings to change when switching back and forth?

basically, when I go from my internet machine to my music machine, everything is cool......but when I go BACK to the net machine, the graphics/display settings have changed and I have to re-select the settings and profile again every time.

Baffled
depends on your gfx card

those KVM things usually have a default resolution they force devices to use...

the same sort of thing can happen when you hook yer PC up to certain projectors and such.
I have a 19" widescreen monitor and love it,especially since I was on a 15 incher for so long.

So size REALLY does matter Wink

fuck.

are there ones that support a range of resolution settings? This suuuucks.

how does the GFX card play into it?
