Recording a vinyl

I was wondering:

lp's from the old times are cool as they produce a very warm sound as there was analog to analog recording, no digital thing.

and what about now ? what format is used to record vinyls ?
and which format contains more data after recording - vinyl or a standart 16bit audio cd ?

It's a bit of a philosophical question but I think the vinyl contains a lot more data after recording. The interesting question is whether it presents, to human ears, a) a more accurate representation of the recorded signal (no) or b) a 'better sounding' representation of the original signal (maybe, but it's subjective).

Transition Studios FAQ Wrote:What formats do you accept?

Cd dat ¼ inch (by prior arangemnt)audio cassette minidisk all data types

wav, cd audio
basically any non-compressed digital format
Although I know of one particular recent release, a remix of an old classic, which was pressed to vinyl from 320kbps mp3. No one complained at the quality of that!

wow, a lot of things to understand in those wikipedia links Smile
but initially i thought of such scenario:

you have (for example) 24bit 96khz wav and:

a) record it to vinyl
b) record to 16bit 44khz cd audio

logically you may have more information on a vinyl. So i wanted to know if anybody does it like that ( option a) )..

but WiLSHY's answer left no hope Smile
