I'm almost 100% sure that this break is from the Rotary Connections, from Life Could, or from the album with Life Could. (Aladdin)
I will check it.
But...its Photeks fav. break, its from '68 (almost '70s Grin), it's 33RPM.
I think it is...

OK, its the Life Could break.
But Photek (and Fracture) removed somehow the background noise of the reverbed things before the drums...

WOOOOOOW!!!

Its TRUE! Its the life could break!
JUST.

The key is in the sequence. I always thought that the reversed "stichy" sound made from the hihat-ghost snare combo, but guys, try to reverse the fill part of the break!!! You will be surprised!!!

link to the break or stfu tbh!

I do not have good news guys...
I work on this all day long, but can find the right way...
There is a sound, a slice, right after the snare, what I just CANT find in the break...and I do not know how to remove the noise from the snare Icon_sad
I just started thinking about maybe I was wrong...Its one full break, but unfortunately not the Life Could...

Anyway, here is my last result, check it out.
I use everything what I got : Logic, DSP Quattro, lot of plugs, my Akai as a "resampler", tapes, E-Mu's Z-Planes, and my almost 10 years old knowledge of producing...(sendspace and rapidshare link, if somebody could host a mirror, it would be niiiice)

http://www.sendspace.com/file/mq6xmv
http://rapidshare.com/files/385768030/sp...d.wav.html

Do not ask, how did I done this, because I just can't remember, lot of processing, lot of resampling, timestreetch, eq, filtering, layering, sequencing, etc...
This break would be a nice one, if somebody layer a good kick under it, or something.
I will use this one, cause it is my most closer version to Photeks and Fractures break...

In case last day bought DustBall from Juno, so its out, and I hope one day Fracture will uncover the source...

Keep searchin' guys, keep searchin' ...

...again...

Anyway!

Here is a true Photek break, directly from an E-Lab sample disc, called XTC Files Of Jungle.
I can't remember in which tune used the master, but this is it. (mirrors please Grin )

Thats the break i thought it was from your slow`d down clip. I sampled it for a track that was suppose to come out on M.Shadow back in 93. I didnt have the original back then and so i sampled this....

Maybe, just maybe it could have been sampled from this source as theres a shuffle break under it as it fades out.

I honestly havn`t paid too much attention and i kept quiet about the R.C original out of respect for Charlie. But his tunes out now and through your determination you have come to the same conclusion so maybe this`ll help.

Hy, yes, the track came out, and amazing by the way, I just love all of the Astrophonica releases, the true "copy" of the original Wormhole sound, mixed with the atmospheres, drumming technique from drumfunk.
Maybe a bit moore jazz could make the label better. (jazzy stuffs for B-sides! Grin)

I will check this.
The kick is not important, you can layer any kicks under this, depends on where you will use the break, the most important is the snare sound and that "stichy" stuff right after the snare.
I've analyzed DustBall too, slowed down, take a zoomed look into the break, and the sequence is almost the same, a bit more complex, but that sound right after snare is there.
If you check my life could version, you can notice, that the snare and that ghost is what Im still missing, the other parts, like simple hihat, kick or the reversed hh-ghost combo is not problem...

BTW thank you very much!!!!

Your versions was very close btw snaper, cant believe you're so determined Lol

No probs mate.I hope you understand why i kept felt i had to keep quiet. Surely its more fun discovering breaks for yourself anyway Wink

I didnt actually mean the bass note. More the shuffle thats only on the fade out. But i havnt paid it 1% of the attenion that you have so im sure you know what your missing. Goodluck.

Thanks Dave, you are the man.
In case, I still can't believe this Grin BTW, still there is that "noise" on the snare, and the kick.
BUT.
In this album are another sampled break, from the ...(I cant remember) Harlem Band, from the tune, called Hey Bro or something like this.
With this tape+MPC like USA distortionm if I pitch up, the snare sounds mooore interested Grin

Will take a look to that...

Okay, more eyes see more things Grin

The Photek break :
http://kepfeltoltes.hu/100512/Picture_2_...es.hu_.png

This is the snare sound:
http://kepfeltoltes.hu/100512/Picture_3_...es.hu_.png

This is that "stitch" sound, what I cant recognize...
http://kepfeltoltes.hu/100512/Picture_4_...es.hu_.png

And this is the hihat-ghost combo :
http://kepfeltoltes.hu/100512/Picture_5_...es.hu_.png

As you can see there are no problem with the snare. Its quite similar to the LF (Life Could) snare.

The combo isn't hard tooo. Just Ive mentioned a few pages ago, hihat, reversed hihat, and cutted ghost snare, no problem.

But that stitch sound...I just can recognize it in the original...theres a kick with som ghosts...maybe.

If I had a CLEAN copy of the photek break...(this one is well processed with some crazy chorus...)

Is there any tune of photek where I can steal the break?
Reply

Okay, Ive got an unprocessed version of that break.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/9nee02

http://kepfeltoltes.hu/100513/Picture_1_...es.hu_.png

Check the picture.
The marked one is that stitch sound.
After the snare is a standard hihat-ghost-hihat-ghost roll, but the second hihat is different, its a bit louder, and just sounds different...

It could be the LF break, because if you made the LF sequence similar to this, the waveforms looks very very similar...
...but in case, you can't find that hihat sound in the break...

Oh...Fracture, confirm please that is it the LF break or not...

Hahaha, this all so weird Smile

Why is "Life Could" abbreviated with "LF"? Lol

Other thing is: I still don't think that the "LF"-break Wink sounds like the one Photek used. No

Read this again, and...
Okay.
Ive read somewhere in an interview maybe, that Photeks fav. break is the Life Could break, but in case I never heard this break in any Photek tunes...

Maybe the key is that what Dave told us. Maybe Photek didnt sample this break directly from the original tune, maybe he sampled, a sampled version of this one...
(And Fracture didnt confirm that the break isnt the LifeCould...)

BTW Im keep searching.
Reply

Ive just read again my PMs with Fracture :

snaper :
Cramp Your Style, break, I think its not the source, but lot of digger friends told me that, maybe...other friends of mine think that this is the Smokin Cheeba Cheeba...
After these a guy give me a name : Harold Balzack. Hard to find anything about this guy, but maybe?
Other idee was the Bananas soundtrack from 1971, in case the japanese version, Ive hunt one those discs but its not the source
Maybe Leo Sayer?
Stone Roses?
Sesame Street mixed with Life Could? (Im shore that the photek break is one rare break...)
Or...
...and this seems to be the best idee : Rulon Jones and his woman.

Fracture:
I can tell you that it's not a break that you know from somewhere else. It's not a mix of breaks.

...

Not the Life Could...
