fixed link. Will dig out a load of pure x0x recordings too. Prob got loads in abeltons record folder.

Got some 60/40 solder and its infinitely easier to use. Grin Also got one of those brass solder cleaning tools, well good.

Def avoid crap silver leadfree solder, maplins crap. Mad

Built a little amp kit and voice changer kit this afternoon, both work fine, so might just crack on with shruthi !

Smile
I fuxxin love the x0x, all my life wanting a 303 and this is pretty much it! apart from the casing, have a 606 here that has a drunken memory it seems, but havin so much fun with the 2.

not going to post clips as i dont really make music like PDX just play with them Smile

Think i want a 707 and then i'm happy!
Brass solder thing is basically a brillo pad, hope ya didnt pay too much for it :P
it was £4 delivered ... ok by me. Learnt my mistake buying from maplins... Works really well tho, much better than sponge and makes soldering easier, well worth it imo.

Glad youre liking the x0x. Grin Great little things.

Never saw the point of 707s myself, all samples, have the samples in kontakt format if you want them?

Thats what i used on Network Acid above.

Started my shrtuthi, going veeeeery slowly, measuring every resistor before i solder it. Up to step 5 Icon_yippee Teef

Torn between buying a 707 or an electribe SX sampler thing. I just love the step sequencer vibe. So much fun tbh! I've learnt over the years if i sit in front of the computer it leads straight to the internet!

No screen = Smile

by the way love your x0x tunes its exactly what i wanted it for..
Can those Korg's output their sequencers to external midi devices and work on different midi channels as well?

Since youre good at electronics mate, http://www.midibox.org/

Build exactly what you want from 'blocks'

Cheers for comments re tunes. Grin
I can still only get one tune to play, the others just sit there not streaming or buffering. Can't remember which one while I'm at work.
ok, v boring, but if interested, work'blog' of shurthi build. Split into new topic if youd prefer; Sorry for crappy photos, decent camera is in america.

The box!

Taken me a while, about 3-4 hours, which is slow, but really taking my time and making sure everything is right, measuring eveRy resistor first. Save time later! I also spent ages looking for a bloody resistor that was in a different bag Mad

Need to build the PSU on the analogue board next so i cant start testing it. Think thats about 1/3 of it done. More later. Smile
Finished the analogue board now, all tests worked Icon_yippee More blurry photos tomorrow Teef

@safetyboy, remembered this, another kit; £22 for pcb and chip, or £90ish for entire kit.

http://blog.vacoloco.com/?cat=78

more vids etc on his blog.
are you using an oldschool filter or the stock one? i would recomend the cem or 2044!
Basic one (SMR4). Its the only one you can get as a full kit, and i wanted a ready to go kit, and the rare chips are well, rare, and expensive. £40 the the CEM!

His next filter board is an IR3109, the roland Jupiter 8/SH101 one, im well up for that. I might get another one together, their mono but you can chain for poly.

Well, had a nightmare morning, nothing seemed to work but the genious guys on the forum have really helped me out. I soldered one connector one pin out, which is a minor annoyance (lose one CV mod until i can get another pin). But the encoder didnt work until i realised id bent one pin of the main IC under. But it all works now, MIDI sound and all buttons and knobs. Woohoo!!!

Learnt an awful lot along the way as well.

All i need to do now is to solder on the LCD display, tune the filter and put it in the case. Hurray!

Been a lot of hard work but very satisfying.
well its finished, and appears to be working. Had a number of issues which dragged it out all day, but working and calibrated now Icon_yippee

Case doesnt have space for a power switch tho, which they supply Confused so ill have to poke some wires out a hole for now.

Just putting it in the box then make some noise!!!

More photos later if you want...

Love it, good work Xyxthumbs

Now for the demos.
nice!!

the 2044 chips can be brought for £10 quite often on ebay, i have shit loads in my 2 siels they are nice filters
Yay!

Well it works, which is amazing enough in itself, but it also sounds great. Gritty 8bitness with analogue filter, and lots of modulation options. Filter isnt quite as good as other analogue ones ive heard but pretty decent, and i think it still needs a bit of tuning. Screens a little bit wonky too, but given my problems yesterday im chuffed it even works. Very inspiring.

Did record a demo tweak of some of the presets and me jamming but it ended up a 45 min long recording so i doubt you want to hear that. Some great little noises in the presets (a few great vowel wavetables) in there and loads of room to make patches and pretty easy to use. Great little project.

Best thing about it is i kept thinking, hmm, wouldnt it be nice if it had a mute button, or a dedicated filter knob etc, and i can just go back and add them! Grin Completely customisable. Hardest part will be drilling the plastic case!

Well worth it. Looks loads better when its boxed up rather than a pair of pcbs. The real deal. And it was about £150 all in which compares well to bought synths. And ive learnt a ton of electronics along the way.

Ill try to do some shorter audio today. Might retweak the filter, have to unscrew it all tho.

Next up ive got a pcb for a 808 kick clone, free from another geek. So im thinking of making it but with a midi pitch trigger, for genuine 808 jungle bass line bizness. Also got the monotron mods and MIDI interface to do and ive got a really clear idea of a distortion/filter unit i want to build. Theres so many schematics about, moog, ms20, JP8 filters, Homerdrool

WRT The shruthi, also thinking of getting and making the other two filter boards, and having a 3 way parallel filtered monster, with the audio input being usable too as an effects box. Pretty simple. Could even add a little distortion pcb too.

All good!

Cheers
Get that 45 min recording up. Nothing wrong with sifting through it!
ah well

heres the raw recording, edited and layered a bit. No effects or processing. 909 live jam added on top for a laugh. just a 1 bar loop. Poss not best example of the synth but i started to get carried away... some more traditional stuff on youtube.

also loads of raw x0x. Out of interest one is a tb303 recording and 5 are x0xb0x, see if you can spot real 303.

You've made 5 mins pretty interesting there. Xyxthumbs 100 times more interesting than any loop I could make.

Pretty nice. What you using to sequence it? The x0x?
just typed 8 notes in at random in ableton. took 4 secs!

:P

only a qucik listen on the laptop but the xox seems more meaty Smile very similar though
want a shruthi now, they sound good!

Here PDX could you post the notes for x0x2, still unsure if i have tuned mine right, need a reference Smile
mate ill try but im out tonight and flying to america first thing wednesday so i cant guarantee.

Phono has a load of samples on his blog especially for tuning/303 comparison, http://www.dinsync.info
The SammichSID has arrived. No customs charge as well Xyxthumbs

Now to get a couple of cheap kits to practice on.
