All the Evil is now gone. The world will be so peacefull. I`m sure AlQaeda won`t be even slightly pissed off at loads of people, Chanting U.S.A and holding up banners saying Obarma 1 Ossama 0 Roll

(no offence to the US Subverts, I just think theres ways and means of going about such matters)

Like take him to the international court of justice in den hauge and spend a couple hundred million euros to find him guilty?
I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.

Martin Luther King, Jr.
^ hear, hear. sums up what i've been trying to say all day.

No i wasnt suggesting that. I just think chanting USA, doing all the high fiving shite and having the aforementioned banners (scenes from Ground Zero on BBC) is just liking spitting in the face of an obviously very dangerous organisation. I totally get why some people are happy to see him `get what he deserved` ect but after all, he is only the face of a very large organisation. Its not going to be the end..

Beautiful quote sir
Of course, anyone accused of terrorism should be executed without trial in a secret mission in a foreign country. Thats what justice is all about.

a fair point

although "accused" isn't really applicable here

Well, the Taliban offered to hand him over after for trial 9/11 if the US provided evidence of his involvement - we know what happened there.

In my mind he was quite clearly a terrorist, but then again there's a sizable portion of the world who would say the same about Cameron, Bush, Blair, Obama, Netanyahu... many of NATO's current acts in Libya amount to terrorism. The definition is often qualified by the justification for the acts, and Bin Laden could probably have made as good an argument as most of the aforementioned.

Of course he would never have gone to trial. It would've been embarrassing to the US and its allies and become a platform for anti-western sentiment and argument, and a rallying point for new and existing supporters, not to mention that the US doesn't really recognise the international court of justice anyway.

Sure. But later he claimed responsibility himself.

Quite so.

But how credible is that claim? Not in the truther sense, but in regard to how much he was personally involved.

The FBI claim to have evidence he was involved. Bin Laden said he was involved. As to the actual truth, who knows.
It is important, Korsgaard says, "not to confuse the desire for retribution with the desire to defeat an enemy. But because terrorism partakes of both crime and war, it is perfectly natural, and perhaps legitimate, to have both of these attitudes towards Osama bin Laden: to think that we had to disable him, and to think that he deserved to die."

The two sentiments should be kept apart, she says. "If we have any feeling of victory or triumph in the case, it should be because we have succeeded in disabling him — not because he is dead."

I find this whole buried at sea within 24 hours pretty suspect

By all accounts Bin Laden was a very ill man

I'm starting to doubt the entire thing

And also very tall. I didn't realise he was 6ft 4"!

I agree with what Trax said regarding some of the celebrations happening in the States. It isn't what I was expecting to see although I can understand the folk in NYC have reason to cheer. I suppose we'd just be incredibly British about it here.

End of an era.
The americans were always going to get him at some point.
So, just to summarise. The US undertook a special forces operation on the soil of an ally without informing them, invaded a house where children were staying and executed an unarmed man in his bed whilst killing his son and wounding his wife.

Im pretty certain theres quite a few serious violations of international and US/Pakistani domestic law there. Luckily they're the good guys.

Whats to stop them doing the same in the UK?
