So I got kinda lost in this thread cause Its quoting a bunch of books I havent read but what do you guys think about porn? Out of curiosity have you ever actually talked to any of the women or men who are performers or are in the industry?
Annastay Wrote:what do you guys think about porn? Do you mean at the personal level? I don't use porn — not because of any moral or political objection, but because it doesn't excite me. It seems mostly to be women in provocative come-fuck-me poses and I'm supposed to want to do stuff to them. Meh. Annastay Wrote:Out of curiosity have you ever actually talked to any of the women or men who are performers or are in the industry? Nope. But the books I've mentioned include contributions by women who have worked (possibly still do work) in the industry. Generally, I'd much rather read what sex workers have to say themselves (e.g. http://www.prostitutescollective.net/) than what some moral majority politician/clergyman or middle-class tenured university lecturer has to say.
I know very little about feminism but found parts of this article interesting.

Extreme porn trial: consensual sex and the state
Despite Simon Walsh's acquittal by a jury, the case raises questions about the right of the state to intrude on individual's private and consensual sex lives http://www.guardian.co.uk/law/2012/aug/0...imon-walsh
The quote at the end
Thought this was quite interesting, once you get past the terrible layers of clunky world weary irony that Vice writers are seemingly contractually obligated to lather all over every piece they write. Quite a moving tale really; a woman with a colostomy bag and a double mastectomy using pornographic web cam chats to help herself through her self esteem issues and medical problems.

Gayle Rubin Wrote:A democratic morality should judge sexual acts by the way partners treat one another, the level of mutual consideration, the presence or absence of coercion, and the quantity and quality of the pleasures they provide. Whether sex acts are gay or straight, coupled or in groups, naked or in underwear, commercial or free, with or without video should not be ethical concerns.
i heard this dude on a podcast. interesting stuff.
theories & findings, entirely based on sexual internet usage. the spectrum gets kinda freaky, but once again, observed & based on anonymous internet usage. what did you just type into your search engine?? tsk tsk heh. ".. Two bold young neuroscientists have initiated a revolution in the scientific study of sexual attraction. Before Ogi Ogas and Sai Gaddam, the only researcher to systematically investigate sexual desires was Alfred Kinsey, who surveyed 18,000 middle-class Caucasians in the 1950s. But Ogas and Gaddam have studied the secret sexual behavior of more than a hundred million men and women around the world. Their method? They observed what people do within the anonymity of the Internet."
My best (girl) friend is a porn star. She loves her what she does, and I totally respect her for it.

"Masturbating while watching pornography will not make you go blind. But could it make you sexist? Two new studies out this month suggest the answer is yes, that watching pornography can have a detrimental effect on people's perception of women and reinforce negative stereotypes" |
