This was the first that came to mind:

The following is a Hip Hop cover of "Whole Lotta Love" - it might sound a bit strange or weird today, but it's a nice example of a fact that seems to be written out of Hip Hop's "official" history, namely how much Rock was part of early hip hop (the post-electro Phase from let's say 1985-1988/89) There was of course RunDMC, LL Cool J, Early Bastie Boys....

^^  i like it too, much preferable to the original, heh Cool
As I never find myself randomly listening to Nirvana - which wouldn't be an occasional bad thing if it happened - starting my week in gritty fashion, I'm even more appreciative of the much heralded, THOU, Nirvana interpretations they have greatly trademarked over the years.

Hey Kurt (r.i.p), I wholeheartedly approve. Lighter

Its kinda cool when the cover version sticks in your head vs. the original, huh?  Case in point.

ok, so...

"..Australia’s Gallery of Modern Art commissioned Xiu Xiu to reinterpret the music from Twin Peaks for their David Lynch: Between Two Worlds exhibition. Since then, the band has performed select concerts all over the globe culminating in a proper studio album of the compositions.."

I found the Cure sounding cover version, which was originally The Smiths, which is also covered by Dum Dum Girls (in a much better version)

"There Is A Light That Never Goes Out"

The one about driving on a motorway and dying next to your lover in a car crash being the ultimate heartbreak.

A very well done cover by Red Axes...
^^   i like that.

in Forgetters mode this morning.

I'm a fan of Jimmy Sommerville's Communards covers.
^^ I actually had a chat this past week hearing Sommerville on the car radio about Sommerville doing disco covers back in the day. We concurred that for the genre, they were pretty good, imo.

The Godflesh cover is fun.

The Scorn, Black Sabbath cover is great.

stripping things down is an easy formula
