just upgraded

no problems so far

Hopefully will do this to my media centre pc this weekend. Clean install.
I was going to, but "cancelled" the upgrade. From reviews, a lot of the upgrade is for touch screens, & tablets, both of which i do not have. So maybe not so urgently needed on my end. I HATED Windows 8 when I first bought my current laptop, I'm used to it tho. If anything, I may try to upgrade to Windows 10 on one of my other unused laptops, which still has Windows 7. We'll see.
I never got the update offer on my Asus machine. And my Advent machine is offline. Windows 8 worked well on the Advent - as it does on the Asus, with Fresh Paint art feature and all that. But that's only one application, and I don't really use any of the other bundled interface additions. So, in conclusion, I will probably stay with Windows 8 until forced at gunpoint.
Windows 10 is much better than Windows 8 and isn't just for tablets etc.. I've been running the insider version for a couple of months and it works well.

meant to be full of spyware, keyloggers etc... prob the reason its free. (thanks US taxpayers! )

Yes, tracking is set at On everywhere by default. You have to go and turn everything off.
I'm assuming that does the trick - unless it doesn't?

Upgraded and then downgraded back to W7. Don't have the need to upgrade at the moment, so I'm not rushing with it. I tried out the insider version and it seemed to be better, that W8, but I currently don't own any W8 machines.
Also, local smartcard isn't working on W10 yet - that's a really big minus in this part of the world.
You can force the upgrade if you don't get the option: www.theverge.com/2015/7/31/9077997/microsoft-windows-10-clean-install-how-to-guide

I tried last night, but it failed with some meaningless error. Will try again when I'm less busy (cleaning 30 odd bottles for beer).
Decided to finally upgrade after chancing it as I read that a few DAW's have problems, thakfully there seems to be no problems with any programs installed.
However, I am getting other issues. I've upgraded from earlier versions of windows before with absolutely no problem. Now I have a string of them, firstly, it constantly kicks out the wifi connection, secondly the toolbar decides to not work, thirdly it goes to shut down and gets stuck, forcing me to shut it down holding the power button in 9 out of 10 times and finally, it wouldn't recognise my optical Drive. The last one is the only one I have been able to fix. I've about had enough of this, it's ridiculous, think I'll I'll go back to windows 8.1 (sigh)
Worse decision I made was to update. I reverted back to win 7 - had to buy a new copy, but it has been worth it. Reinstated everything over the weekend, and I'm back in business.
Plugin Alliance software is not compatible with win10. Cannot go without my Maag EQ4 or bx_digitalv2. A lot of issues with older VSTs as well, especially with the built in protection. KORG M1 legacy was just impossible, effectively reregistering it every time.
iLok failed, e-licenser failed - no Nexus2 or Eventide H3000 plugins.
So slow - took forever to load and do anything, despite turning off everything I could think of. I have a 4 year old i7 quad-core and 8gb ram, its still fast - putting win7 pro on a ssd gives me a boot up time of 9 seconds.
layout is crap, and menu-system (lack of in some places) was counter-intuitive.
ugly
too much bloat, with apps and stuff you don't really need.
network issues and hanging issues as above
graphic card options - never had previously, but when on battery power the screen would flicker every now and then, and sometimes go into what could only be best described as "broken tv mode": Like you punched the screen, and the lcd gets mashed up behind, with weird colours and multiple refractions. Weird.
done
Jeez, I thought my issues were bad Icon_sad

I'm trying to fix the problems with mine, but my patience only goes so far!

I didn't upgrade. Business as usual.
I remember a quote from from one of Beavis & Butthead episodes, where Butthead says "If something's good, why change?"
Seems that nowadays this advise is more useful than ever Smile

I was perfectly happy before Microsoft titted around with windows Icon_razz
Win10 is excellent on my media pc
There seems to be pattern of missing every second release of Windows: XP - yes, Vista - no, 7 - yes, 8 - no. So by this logic 10 should be OK Icon_razz
Either way, until 7 works fine, I'm sticking with it.

Yep, seems to be the pattern! From personal experience Vista was the worst by far. Was forced it down my throat at work back in the day. The hours wasted .....

got 8.1, took me long enough to get used to even that...

No way I'm going to 10 until I'm forced

Wondering here, why did u upgrade in the first place, Euphony? Any special reasons? I don't have any plans for using Wiindows 10 myself, I am just curious.

Because everyone at the time told me how sleek and more streamlined it was compared to 8.1.

If it worked properly then yes it would be. I still get the odd issue, but they seem to be getting less frequent after an update (touch wood)
"If it worked properly then yes it would be." That's how I feel about the Groove media player. Keeps crashing saying tracks are being used by other apps. So WMP it is. Shame as I could actually look at CD art with Groove. Thought iTunes was sickly bland.
It's great besides that, got on well with it. Just a shame about the media player that overrides WMP because it started working well then fcked up.
