Songs of the 70s

Okay, the same thing as before, for the 1970s.

1970 itself was very difficult. Looking at the pop charts for that year, I can't find anything that I remember liking aged six. I've had to resort to incidental music from children's television:

The Magic Roundabout was certainly running in 1970, and we did watch it:

And here's an episode of The Clangers, apparently broadcast on 11 January 1970. Scroll through to 7:20 for the musical fishing boat Smile

Equally difficult. I eventually found the following truly awful record. But it does have a good sing-along tune for a seven-year-old to enjoy.

Now we're getting somewhere. This is still a great record...

More glam rock. Must read Simon Reynolds' new book.

Gotta admit, I always kinda liked The Queen.

I was mostly listening to punk in 1977, but I'm not sure any of those records beats this one Smiley

bought from a now long defunct Virgin record store on the day it came out

Recorded in 1977, but charting one year later in Germany this was the finest hour of the Italian/French producer Cerrone - "Super Nature" - here the full length version:

10cc's finest hour, in fact one could well argue (in case you're a musical snob) if this was in fact 10ccs only good song Icon_razz

At the same time a timeless masterpiece in so far that it's difficult to put a release date to it, in case you weren't around at the time it was actually released/played in public. Not even being born yet in this record's release year I naturally heard it much later and would have placed it easily into the 1980s.

It doesn't sound quite so startling now, but this blew me away at the time.
