In a sense, didn't they lose out this way now? If they got the penalty and had won 3-1, wouldn't that had put them in the quarter finals instead of Denmark? I thought there was a question of a 2-goal difference advantage, and by Italy scoring 3 and zeroeing out the difference wouldn't they have gone through?

Anyhow, any claims that Sweden and Denmark didn't fight it out proper are hollow if you just watch the game.. what a match!! Just can't believe it was set up because that was a nearly impossible goal and only scored in the 89th minute..

Here we go, Sweden, c'mon!!

I personally hope that Denmark go far in the championship. Their team deserves it.

2-2 meant Sweden and Denmark went through even if Italy won 100-0
since Italy scored fewer goals in the matches between the three teams

Denmark 0-0 Italy
Italy 1-1 Sweden
Denmark 2-2 Sweden

Are you sure about that? They all finished on 5 pts each, then there was the goal difference (SWE 8-3, DEN 4-2 and ITA 3-2). Ok, Italy would have to win 4-1, but that would've given them a 5-2 goal difference which is better than Denmark and then Denmark would have been out. Had Italy won 100-0, , they'd top their group due to goal difference. I think the amount of goals scored between the teams only kicks in at third instance when two teams that need comparison have the same goal difference.

Anyway, penalty wasn't deciding after all. That would've given Italy 4-2 gd like Denmark, and then that wouldn't have helped anyway.
