Angie Summers is well known around Brisbane for her penchant for Drum n Bass and wizardry on the decks. But she is also a magician in interviews! With her usual disarming smile and vast musical knowledge, there is no doubt that Angie Summers was able to unlock a few secrets from the UK Double Header that is Break and DJ Fierce, due to hit Australia later this week.
You have both travelled the world and no doubt played to diverse crowds and cultures. In your opinion, which are the cities and countries that have the strongest emerging DânâB following?
Break: Italy and South Africa have surprised me for gigs, and thereâs some great music coming from Holland.
Fierce : I love Australia and New Zealand, i really love the places with the big systems.
Break, you recently did a collaboration with up-and-coming New Zealand DJ Dose. Do you have any plans for other kiwi collaborations in the near future?
Break: Sadly it wasnât a collaboration, my track was just on the other side, but I do enjoy doing collaborations when I can, just need to make some more links with people in New Zealand and Australia. The label Quarantine is relatively new in comparison to many of the other big names in the record market. Yet, some would say that it has already risen up to the cream of the crop with massively popular releases such as âDominion.â
How do you guys feel knowing that Quarantine has become a house-hold name to Drum & Bass fans around the world?
Break: Weâre glad that people are feeling the sound that weâre trying to push, I personally rated the label before I was involved, its wicked to be part of it now.
Fierce: As i have said on previous interviews, Quarantine is all about releasing the sickness and we will continue to do just that.On this forthcoming tour, fans in some selected cities can be witness to a 3 hour Fierce and Break back to back set.
How long have you guys been perfecting this two-man sonic assault?
Fierce: Iâve been playing since i was 12 years old, so quite a long time. When I was 11 or 12 years old I used to listen to pirate stations like Touchdown FM, Kool FM, Don FM and Kiss 100. Kiss wasnât a pirate but they used to play Reinforced exclusives on the specialist shows. I loved that and recorded them all then went out to try and find the records.
Break: Weâve played B2B quite a bit recently, so weâre in quite a good flow at the moment â Watch out Australia!
Using three words each, describe what Australian audiences are in for during this tour.
Fierce: Here Comes ZENITH! However, in my experience itâs never a good idea to let the cat out of the bagâ¦
Break: (says nothing as he does not want to let any cats out of any bag)
What are three tunes that audiences in each city are guaranteed to hear?
Fierce: At least 3 tracks from the forthcoming Quarantine album, Zenith, featuring Break, Fierce, D Bridge, Silent Witness, Optiv, Survival and NicoBreak: Genesis/The Drone, my forthcoming release on Symmetry, and unheard DNAudio material.
