I've just checked DOA, checked SC, checked DNB.hu...no new intersting topics...
What happends to the community?
I became a father, have no time for forums, and almost 100% dropped dnb/jungle in the past 2 years...
...but the others?

not just production forums â all forums.
people tend to congregate on corporate social networking sites nowadays.

plus a lot of things, esp production related, have been discussed to death. I became a father, have no time for forums, and almost 100% dropped dnb/jungle in the past 5 years... for whats its worth. No2 due in January as well...

+1 to social networking, I seem to spend a lot of time on the synth freaks facebook group, but even then 99% of the conversation is "I have money, recommend me a synth".
Still here though, I'm always good for a production-related chinwag

The other thing is the amount of information out there is huge, in the last 4-5 years the number of youtube videos that cover music production, be it with actual artists or just people jamming, is incredible. Plus the number of magazines, blogs, warez, tutorials, sample packs, ableton live projects, logic stems, acapellas etc. you can access with a just a little searching online you can work a lot of stuff out for yourself.

Not really. Such conversations as there ever are disappear within a day or two at most. There's no search function, no history. Sometimes you could say it's like meeting your mates for half an hour in the pub. But more often it's like talking to some random guy about football for a minute or two in the pub. Nothing even at the casual level of this old thread I found yesterday...

Haha yeh I noticed that. People who have got some cash to splash but don't want to do their homework and want others to do their thinking for them. They probably get bored after they've used the presets a few times and sell it again

some people use it as a personal Wikipedia, to the point where "let me google that for you" should become the standard response. I think the biscuit was finally taken when one woman posted at 3am demanding to know everything about a Casio HT700 she wanted to buy for $45, and then she spat her dummy when nobody answered within an hour. Or the case where one guy demanded to know what was best for electronic music (helpful description): Casio HZ600, Yamaha PSS480 or a cheap Solton no one had ever heard of - no idea what he had, needed or intended to achieve, became surly when asked for more info to help him, and then he bought a Venom.

What statto said. FB SIMULATES but doesn't STIMULATE communication respectively exchange of ideas. It's all about "convneience" I suppose, bc on FB you get all presented to you on a "click" instead of actually type basis. For some people that's already enough to favor FB over forums. Oh well...
Besides, apart from what's ben said in this thread already, I just suspect young folx nowadays are less into music generally, so there's less people actually producing music which results in less activity on places such as this one.

YouTube is to blame too. If I want to know something quickly I can look up a technique on there and run with it. Convenience, instant results etc.

The only thing missing from this list is the human connection. I guess that's now provided by other kinds of social media, but most of them are also not great for actual discussions between people. Hmm. Dunno!
