4 Hero - Creating Patterns

At least go full orchestra, not stand there with your headphones on and pipe in a fucking drum machine.
This doesn't appeal to those outside dance music, if anything I would hope it drives them away.

As for Creating Patterns, it's a bit of a non-event for me.
There's also something funny (well to me anyway) about what is essentially a rave outfit from NW London eventually re-arranging a 70s soul classic with full orchestra. Good for them.

Just fyi, offtopic slightly, the early hardcore RAM Records stuff is very early Manix / 4hero, and that got repressed recently on the 15x15 collectors edition.

I think 4 Hero were celebrating the Two Pages 20th anniversary, now come to think. Last year wasn't it. And couldn't find my copy to revisit.

Well I stumbled back on it last evening.

I meant it's got nothing to do with Two Pages, my friend x I just meant as passing comment some of the earlier RAM hardcore (Andy C, Moving Fusion) crosses over with the sound of these type of artists.
Thinking 4hero > Aquasky > Reinforced Records > crossgenre continuums, going whichever place. They of course don't necessarily have to overlap, or lead anywhere. But there are similar sounds In there.
The type of old school jungle I am referring to is tracks like "Cool Down" by Andy C, and similar types of percussive rollidge on the disc. I more so mean the amen jungle, and the amen hardcore / chipmunk.

Of course it's arguable 4Hero and Alpha Omega and A Guy Called Gerald and Goldie at that had a very specific, "black music" sound back then, that sounded very organic, very ruff and very spontaneous.
But that was hardcore, wasn't it? I imagine most people could wager most hardcore sounds similar if it uses similar samples.
(Just trying to answer my own questions and doing a mass ramble in the process).

I'm surprised Statto didn't like Creating Patterns, as when picking up the cd recently (Music & Video Exchange, Greenwich) I found it overall a much more cohesive listen than the first. But they're both definitely not drum & bass albums, in the way like Parallel Universe was.

Jacob's Optical Stairway appears to be the 'true' successor to that one, another I recently picked up, having overlooked for the last two decades...

Two of my favourite and most listened to albums ever, of any genre




Two pages is IMO a drum n bass based on album
Creating Patterns is more varied with a number of early broken beat type tunes

4hero's fourth album, Creating Patterns (2001), featured (...) a cover of Minnie Riperton's classic 1970s song "Les Fleurs" with Carina Andersson as the lead vocalist. The latter was featured in a Baileys TV commercial and series 4 of Top Gear (both in 2004).

I rest my case
