copy in the early 90's.

my plan is already laid to keep me occupied when i
retire. plan is to sell off all my records as a hobby.
not like my kids or grandkids would want the shit i

Pavement is one of those bands that I have a difficult time evaluating from today's perspective. Much loved and much hated by so many people.

When Slanted and Enchanted was released, I had the good fortune to hear the record and, like other folks in this thread, I fell in love with it and remain quite smitten. A lot of classic tunes there; and the first half is an awfully strong expression of their sound at the time.

I also loved the follow up EP ,"Watery, Domestic," which ultimately I probably rate higher, at least in terms of sonics and production, than Slanted. The early Westing (by musket and sextant) was a decent noisy little affair as well.

But with Crooked Rain they pretty much exposed themselves as the closet classic rockers that they turned out to be (in my humble opinion anyway). And with the success of Cut Your Hair, their sound became imitated to the point of nausea. I didn't buy anything by them again. Not only was their sound everywhere in the hands of lesser bands, but their own playing left me completely nonplussed.

Am probably prejudiced on account of having seen them live a couple of times in the Crooked Rain-era. Malkmus is a talented guy, but why on earth he reverted to playing guitar solos and rock-out riffs -- and never really evolved from the annoying slacker-hipster vocal delivery -- on that tour and beyond, completely eludes me.
who says everyone on this board only likes dnb eh?

seriously dude, i think you'd like this album, give it another go. as tate said, they lost it soon after this album really, but this is a fooking classic.
I always hated the whole slacker thing though... Stop yer fucking moaning! Hahaha

I might try it again if dgoHn gives me some mp3's though. If only so I get the pleasure of deleting it Teef

pavement were just too good.... their signature sound is the stuff dreams are made of.

spine tingling bizness
I liked, but didn't really loved them. Problem is, they were a blueprint for too many half assed slacker indie crap bands. Makes it hard to enjoy them from today's perspective.
