I def. want to buy it, and hopefully will be able to sooner rather than later. Money's a bit tight at the moment and if it's any consolation at all, I haven't been buying anything else music-wise.

I see it like this:

there are three 12"s which line up as follows:

SC007A DJ Trax - This One
SC008A Macc - Mean Streets
SC009A Fanu - Children

each of these 12"s has one or two 'leftfield' tracks on the B side

SC007B DJ Trax - The Tribe / Cryme meets DJ Trax - Throwback
SC008B Macc - Mr Mitcheson's Rhythm Method
SC009B Fanu - This Behavior is Not Unique

each costs £4 (+ postage) which is well below than the standard rate for a 12"

BUT

instead of that I've put the B sides on the same side
and shoved a load more stuff on the other sides:

3 Atomhead tracks
3 Nubian Mindz tracks
1 Formication 24-minute epic track

it doesn't matter to the dnb punter what these are because they're all basically free tracks

For me it's "I really can't afford it at the moment".

Statistics can be made to prove anything:
My mortgage payments went up by 25% this year.
And my number of kids increased by 50%.
So my record purchasing has gone down the toilet. The only stuff I've bought recently was using some record store vouchers I got for my birthday, and obviously this wasn't in the store.

I like this one. Mean Streets is so good it should be hermetically sealed for decades. The Nubian Minds stuff sounds like it's made of pure funk and I'm keen to hear the whole Formication track. Not too fond of the rest, but it's still value for money.

For what it's worth I wasn't totally into the first two EPs. They both had a couple of killer tunes (to my ears), but I mainly bought them because I love this place and wanted to support the cause.

I agree with that.

Most punters who buy dnb are dumb fucks, and anything different scares them. Remember how the Autchere remix on Cert 18 almost wiped out the label cos it scared off all the dnb customers..?

Suppose its not the same collectible factor as the vinyls but times is hard for everyone and 12" sales are going down the pan universally

To be honest, I've just cast a vote, and I dont look at every thread on here, but to be honest only the Nubian Minds tracks on this raise any interest on this release for me. And, they do seem pretty wicked, but the others?

Gotta say, Alpha Omega is teh man; I reviewed his debut album once, gave it 5/5.

I'll consider the balance of things... and I will return to post here once more

Sure, but at the end of the day, it's the same as running a club night - if you're primarily counting on the support of people you know, you're fucked.

A label is no more a charity than a club night. It's a product - and you are competing with other products for people's attention and money. Trying to guilt people into purchasing is not a strategy likely to meet with much success IMO.

On a side note, personally I haven't bothered making a list of all the people who haven't bought my album - fact is, if they actually want it, they'll buy it, and no amount of emotional blackmail will make it otherwise. (although I admit I purchased SC 2+3 out of guilt ).



btw, I'd once again bring up the insanity of paying artists in advance for their contributions to SC Recordings.... but that's your own particular unrealistic/idealistic bed which you insisted on making for yourself, so I guess you kinda have to lie in it.

it works with me though . i sympathize with people who are trying to run things and buy their stuff. at least until they don't reciprocate, and then i stop

as for club nights, i don't go to these because it's always an endless hassle getting there, and for me it's just some guys playing records, which isn't worth it. put on a live act and i'll at least think seriously about going. actually i'm tempted by hearing macc dj this saturday, but i've got too much work on, and i can't afford the time, or the travel costs.

i feel your pain statto, for it is my own pain.... and the pain of everyone of us one here who thinks the same about our own product. but truth is, dnb fucked itself royally once rider etc started pimping bc + friends - that was game over. a scene can't rise again to accomodate and even encourage true diversity when its engine is powered solely by lowest-common-denominator muck.

it's just taken some of us 10 years or more to deal with that, is all.
