any tips for recording vocals and instruments?

Where will you be recording, and what sort of sound are you looking to achieve?
Also, what equipment will you be using? Which mics, straight to hard disc, 2" tape etc etc?
Hiya,
I got an AKG c3000b mic, I was gonna put it thru my mixing desk and record onto my PC.
I got a focusrite tone factory which has a compressor function on it.
And I got a valve eq rack aswell.
I'm not sure what kind of sound I'm after to be honest with you... I'm hoping to record female vocals, and maybe my own - my voice isn't too deep.
I think the room has got a bit of an echo to it, but might be ok for vocals, I've recorded my own and they have sounded not to effected, but on the weekend I was recording drum hits and they had a little nasty echo (will have to listen to them again), actually they weren't drum hits - I was hitting metal plates with a rolling pin and was getting this really bright kinda sound, and tablas and stuff like that as well.
I got a zoom fx too, will that help anything?
