back on the case now with three issues to get through
I'm so slow and scattered
so issue #361 (I'm so far behind)...
Morton Feldman - For Philip Guston (Atopos) http://www.atoposmusic.com/catalogue_en.html Anne Hytta - Draumsyn (Carpe Diem) http://www.annehytta.com/draumsyn.html NEW - Motion (Dancing Wayang) http://dancingwayangrecords.limitedrun.c...ard-motion Eva Polgár & Sándor Vály - Gilgamesh (Ektro) http://ektrorecords.com/shop/product_inf...ts_id=3627 Thumbscrew - Thumbscrew (Cuneiform) https://cuneiformrecords.bandcamp.com/album/thumbscrew Michael Wintsch, Christian Weber & Christian Wolfarth - Willisau (hatOLOGY) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Willisau-Wintsch...B00FAT9U98 Christian Wolfarth - Acoustic Solo Percussion (Hiddenbell) http://www.squidco.com/miva/merchant.mvc...+Christian various - From Another World: A Tribute to Bob Dylan (Buda Musique) http://www.amazon.co.uk/From-Another-Wor...B00G58EBNS the Morton Feldman is great, but I don't know if I want 4 CDs of the whole thing
I was on #361, but I haven't read that far, so I skipped onto April's issue. The Letters section is very amusing
You were influenced by me then
Muttley Wrote:You were influenced by me then apparently so Statto Wrote:this one for #361 Carpe Diem: Fish of the day
yo ho ho
Just started on #362. It seems I already have one of the reviewed records...
Skogen - Despairs Had Governed Me Too Long (Another Timbre) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TH66hiugU34
I went to #364 as it came through the mail this morning, and I'm committing to reading that over all others. "Derelict Career" wasn't reviewed for this one, but I'll give them time; my email was sent to them 3 days before it went to the printers.
Muttley Wrote:I went to #364 as it came through the mail this morning gah, there's another one already?!?
Yeah. I figured I'd start from the back so I could read the gig listings first and The Inner Sleeve (Grouper this time, my fave ambient artist). They have Laaraji + Sun Araw, Demdike Stare + Laurel Halo + Shackelton @ St John at Hackney Church in June, wish I could go. Natural Snow Buildings at Cafe Oto too.
Read On Location & On Site #364. Statto Wrote:Just started on #362. It seems I already have one of the reviewed records... loads of good stuff in this issue, but this is looking favourite at the moment: Sin:Ned - Organs Without Body (Re Records) http://www.re-records.com/discography/re-cd-012/
okay, apart from the one I've already got, the choice for #362 is between these:
"A" Trio - Live in Nickelsdorf (Roaratorio) http://www.roaratorio.com/32.html Kontakt der Jünglinge - Makrophonie 1 (Die Stadt) http://www.brainwashed.com/index.php...les&Itemid=133 Minibus Pimps - Cloud to Ground (SusannaSonata) https://soundcloud.com/susannawallum...ohn-paul-jones Sin:Ned - Organs Without Body (Re Records) http://www.re-records.com/discography/re-cd-012/ Sleaford Mods - Divide and Exit (Harbinger Sound) http://sleafordmods.bandcamp.com/ Terry Waldo - The Soul of Ragtime (Tompkins Square) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Soul-Ragtime.../dp/B00IJNIVPG
okay, this one for #362
Sleaford Mods - Divide and Exit (Harbinger Sound) http://sleafordmods.bandcamp.com/album/divide-and-exit but I'll probably get the Sin:Ned as well (if I can find it anywhere) now on to #363 Statto Wrote:Muttley Wrote:Really; do you read super fast or something? Seeing as you're getting through an issue a day, I can only presume you only go through Soundcheck? I would get way too bored reading a whole Wire magazine a day (and way too overloaded, too). Muttley Wrote:Seeing as you're getting through an issue a day, I can only presume you only go through Soundcheck? I would get way too bored reading a whole Wire magazine a day (and way too overloaded, too). It was four days ago that I posted #361 And no, I don't just read Soundcheck. But okay, I did start with Soundcheck for #362
This looks good:
"Cross-fertillised with the Marxist/Existentialist notion that everyone is self-created, but not under conditions of our own choosing, this is the nub of how to patrol the debatable land between creation and tradition, high art and social communication, and to avoid the ambushes of commercial repetition. It's a terrific book. Get it, absorb it and then get on with it. It is a manifesto, after all." ~ Brian Morton on "The Engaged Musician: A Manifesto" by Sam Richards. On p.74 of The Wire 364
I came across this compelling album after Amazon ballsing up on me and searching eMusic for Jacques Demierre instead:
"Brainforest": http://www.emusic.com/album/jacques-demi.../14839732/
Here's the original Amazon LP which is somewhat busier overall - eMusic has a wonderful bug of putting in free trial notes upon pressing the download button. So I'm going to buy this instead.
"Breaking Stone": http://www.amazon.co.uk/Breaking-Stone-J...s+demierre
"Breaking Stone" is fantastic. The last track is really difficult (40 minutes long) but decidedly worth it. "It falls somewhere between sound poetry and song". I won't be hearing it many times - only in times of difficulty, as it has lots of harsh vocalisations over piano - but damn, what a purchase.
Listen to this sample Statto, from another purchase in Brian Morton's column: The last one in stock at Amazon! Wonderful classical music in the vein of Gorecki - page 64 in The Wire #364. On the strength of this audio excerpt: http://www.universaledition.com/Fete-gal.../work/2460 I just bought: KRAUZE ZYGMUNT-Fete Galante Et Pastorale - Instrumental http://www.amazon.co.uk
In due course . I'm still going through #363.
