Secret Structures is back for a blinding sophomore release. Leading things off is Megalith, a tune that instantly captures the soulful and melancholy sounds debuted on the We Step In Shadows EP. Cross My Heart exhibits a more classic liquid arrangement sure to be a favorite in any DJ's collection followed by the title track Fire Weather, an exercise in alluring atmospherics. A deep and delicate display of drum n bass closes out the EP with Afterlife.

A decent release, I would say; not too cosmetic, rolling through, the high points are when three elements from Secret Structures tag team on the beats, merging atmospheric dnb with atmospheric jungle to fresh effect. Offworld are generally quite revelatory in their not just pretty music; over ninety releases on, they've learned to keep pace with experimental areas of deep techno. The benefit is the artists signed talk space with their melodies. To some of us, experimental percussion is not all about 'chop it up, add a break', which shows development. And it's rare I want to listen more than once, so I'm a fan.
