was thinking the same as shaman, you have to play a holding player (carrick, parker) and then choose from either gerrard, lampard and beckham.

and yes... hargreaves? tbh, i dont even know where he plays when he comes on? whats his job? to score? no... to create? no... to win tackles? no... what then?

They wont sack Sven now, not with only 2 games to go. Also, seriously, who is the alternative? Curbishly aint leaving Charlton. Mclaren is no.2 and seems to have a lot of input, so it must be half his fault too?

I know he's had a chance already and that it will never happen because the FA hate him AND he is a bit of a shady wheeler-dealer, but I think Venables would get the job done. He's attack-minded, knows where to use players, makes insightful substitutions and isn't afraid to leave high-profile players out.

Wenger even?

But it's a moot point really because the FA are firmly up Sven's arse.

Baffled
You would have to get an English manager in, as Wrighty (god love him) pointed out, it has improved the scottish so it has to be worth a try.

Maybe Wrighty could give it a go ? Problem then is that you would get players saying that he is favouring Shaun over them Roll

Personally i think Terry Butcher desperately wants it but my ideal candidate would be Stuart Psycho Pearce !! Grin

A shocking performance, totally abysmal Mad Mad

Eriksson now must go………he has lost the plot with regard to tactics and team selection…..how any times did he change the formation and player positions during the game!!?
We should never loose a game like this, but thanks to his confused tactics and total lack of passion we lost……

Why bring on Hargreaves when we are trying to win the match, why play long balls up to Defoe, what happened to our attacking options?
(were crouch and heskey both injured?)
the substitutions were terrible last night ... but some of the blame surely goes on the players as well ... the difference in the passion and commitment from n ireland compared to our boys was unbelievable - they just didn't look like they wanted to be there .. at the end it was still them attacking for the last 10 minutes!

i think we need to build the team around one or two key players rather than trying to accomodate everyone ... i guess at the moment that means setting the team up so we get the most out of rooney .. i actually think of the midfield three beckham looked by far the best although you do need a more specialist ball winner in there as well ..

in terms of other managers i really can't think of an english manager who has enough top flight experience ... (maclaren is average and like someone said already in the set up) .. how about martin o'neill if he wanted to come back into football???

Geoff Thomas? (but yeah Hargreaves is pony)

Hahaha

i was actually going to post that myself until i saw you got there first
I think there are more than enough candidates for the job but the FA are just stupid when it comes to this sort of thing.

People like Pearce, Allardyce, O'Neill, Alan Ball (Teef) are all good enough but probably will be overlooked everytime.

Dylan, good points there.........i think we should be basing the team more around Rooney rather than beckham....and yes a ball winner is required....say Michael Carrick...along with Wright Phillips, Beckham and Gerrard in midfield

An interesting name for england manager...but one that should be seriously considered!!!
Stuart Peace is also worth mention, but maybe its a bit too soon for him, perhaps in a few years time...

Mc laren should not get the job......
Hahaha

yeah get a former Northern Ireland player to manage ye...

Hahaha didn't think of it like that!

stuart pearce would be good in a few years if all goes well .. at least he would kick their arses when need be - they would be too scared to put a lame performance like last night in!
Me?
Does anyone not also think the problem is having to play Beckham?

I think he upsets the midfield balance & mood of the team too much.

He seems to be able to dictate where he plays too....

I am frankly shocked at rumours of Sam Alladyce taking over, he plays long ball ffs...
jose mourinho all the way for me!!!!

It 'd be great if we could get him, or Wenger, someone with a proven record in English football...
